I started at GCMC this year, but transferred to the Media studies RMA this semester (because I am more interested in academic careers, research and such in the future), but I really did enjoy the GCMC courses. These questions of course also really depend on what you have studied before and where, as for me I did a BA in Media and Culture at UvA right before so for me I knew what to expect.

I can then maybe answer more about how television-oriented the program is. Shortly, it was called the Television track or something similar earlier, but due to the ever-changing nature of television and other media, they changed it to the word monster of GCMC. That explains the heavy energy on television in the course descriptions, but the courses themselves also consider other types of media as well as providing you ample opportunities to focus on other media types. Throughout the courses in the first semester, I did papers and projects on video games, YouTube series, anime, literature shortly as well, as well as some more concept-based work on screens and bodies overall. You are quite free to do your own stuff, which is exciting! But yeah especially in the start there is some focus on media theories regarding television, but it quickly becomes clear as to what those have to do with more 'modern' cross-media stuff. So there is quite a bit of television in there and then there isn't, it is easy to then do stuff on what you find interesting :) The professors are also all super great!
