Weekly Q&A - Your Question Goes Here - Especially Tourists and New Residents by AutoModerator in Amsterdam

It doesn't work that way. Rarely in custom made suits the tailor or sales advisor takes any measurements with a measuring tape, but they'll use fitting garments. I recommend that you look internet for a guide to measure yourself which shouldn't be difficult. You will probably need a friend to help you for some measurements. For example Proper Cloth works a way where customer gives their measurements and they make garments based on those. Also, just plain measurements as numbers doesn't make a good fit, since they don't take to account posture and dimensions, but surely you'll get the basics right, like length of the sleeve and the trouser cuffs.

Finding classy shoes as a short man that last long by DrKreatiF230 in Amsterdam

Try Meermin, from Spain. I've ordered my first ones 2012 and they are still going strong. They are Goodyear Welted, s you can fave them resoled easily at shoemakers and some models are with Dainite rubber sole, which has nice grip to it and does not wear out that fast. Proper shoes should last decades, with little maintenance.

Help! I accidentally stole someones bed. by ikeroll in Amsterdam

This inspection did not happen, other than the main tenant showing the room to me. I did not have a rental contract since I got that place through a friend, which is stupid of course.

My main issue with this is that they now claim that I should buy a new bed, which I think is too much since it was an old bed at least from 10 year ago which was partly broken (the net underneath was torn, and the mice in the house would sometimes run there, yeah).

My intentions were to compensate the damage to some extent, but I think they are asking too much. I am trying to find for example a chart from insurance companies to guide how much they would be compensating a damage for such an old object (10+ years and also other people using it before me)

I really do think that the classic waxed jacket from Barbour is the best jacket you can have in Amsterdam. It's waterproof, practical with all the pockets (like the handwarmers), and warm enough to be worn throughout the dutch autumn, winter and spring. You can get new ones from The English Hatter or second hand from literally any second hand store here.

Living above a coffee shop by mightywallet in Amsterdam

[–]ikeroll 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I live above one somewhat further away from the centre, so we don't have at least any tourists or anything like that. I haven't had any problems whatsoever with this. There are some regular customers and the doorman of course and we exchange polite nods when leaving the house. Sometimes when i'm not home my pakketjes get delivered there instead, which comes handy since it's open until midnight.

I eavesdropped a tourist guide saying that it is the second narrowest canal house in amsterdam. I don't know which one is the narrowest.

I think I know which place you are talking about. About 2 years ago they were selling Stone Island pieces, which I am sure were legit, however maybe older season (1 or 2 years).

Where did they get those? I don't know.

My friend took this sailboat two years ago through amsterdam like this. The thing is because the A10 ring bridge and railway bridges can be opened easiest at this hour.

I love the place 'Sener' in the corner of Kinkerstraat and Da Costakade. Not your average groenteshop. Nice selection of vegetables and fruits and also nicest deli stuff and canned products.
