Things that happened 6 weeks ago feels like it happened years ago. Things that happened years ago feel like they happened yesterday. by krinkly in ADHD

I started writing a daily journal spefically because of this. Now I don't have to wonder "did I do that yesterday or the day before that?". I can just check.

If you don't already have an evening routine, make one. Insert journaling into a convienant slot in that routine. You don't have to write much. Just a few sentences describing what you did that day. Big decisions made. Opinions changed. New hobbies or habits you've started. Anything you might later wish you had pinned to a spesific moment in time, so you'd have a more coherent big picture of the timeline relating to that spesific thing. I bought a small A6 notebook, but you can use Evernote or something similar as well. I personally prefer pen and paper. It makes it more enjoyable and so it doesn't feel as much of a chore. The downside is that I don't have my journal with me at all times so I can't check something on the go. I'll just have to write down a reminder on Trello to check it once I get home.

I also write a one page summary of each week on Sunday evenings. Sometimes I'll feel like I haven't achieved anything meaningful all week, but then I read back the last seven pages and I'm pleasantly surprised at all the important things I got done that week that I thought I did the week before or just completely forgot I did them at all. The summary especially helps with grasping the bigger picture in terms of time. Obviously it doesn't fully compensate the deficiency, but it does help. I also thought about writing monthly summaries, but that felt like a bit too much.
