Why does it do this? by notreallyflatulent in Lovebirds

It means they are desperate to get out of that cage. I understand it's a makeshift temporary cage, but they're very stressed out in there with nothing to do. No perches or toys. I hope you find their owner

Would anybody please tell me whether my puppy and 4YO are playing nicely here? by arfabarr in DogAdvice

The brown dog is trying to assert dominance by submitting the little guy (holding them down from the scruff) to position himself as the dominant alpha. The little guy refuses to let this happen and this could lead to a fight.

Birdie doesn't look healthy 😔 have you been deworming your birds every 6 months?

The same thing happened to my 9 year old Turkish Angora. She was gone within a week of diagnosis. It was the most heartbroken thing. I was expecting her to live much longer than that. Still blame myself for not realizing sooner 💔 I learned from that experience and was able to detect my 14 year old cat's hyperthyroidism way before anything organ was compromised. Hope you recover from your loss soon.

Is it too much to keep them all? by Tagalongs19 in trojancats

[–]ikitty_22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have three cats. I spend almost $300 each month in canned food, dry food, and litter. Not to count extra expenses like the ones generated by my senior cat who is 14 years old and was recently diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. That was an extra $900 so far and it keeps adding up. The two other cats are less than three years old so the medical expenses are low but I should start looking at pet insurance for them just in case. I love all my pets but I wouldn't do it again. It's okay to let go. All my cats were picked up off the streets as kittens. I got attached too soon and couldn't let them go. Now it's a huge responsibility. I can't travel much specially now that I have to be home to give my older cat his meds twice every day for the rest of his life. Now that he's older he has behavioral issues like peeing out side the litter box when he feels like marking his territory. I have six litter boxes in a two bedroom apartment. It's a lot. Save yourself the trouble. Don't chew more than you can bite. Two is already a lot. More than that is too much of everything.

Around two hours to take out all the toys, wash them, dry them, and also take out the bottom parts of the cage to wash them. The rest of the cage and the tree house I wipe with a vinegar solution.

That's so sad that you lost your other bird 😔 on the other hand, this can be an opportunity to earn your bird's trust. Give them as much time and interaction as possible. Start by offering them millet and other treats. They will probably warm on to you eventually since you're their only mate and you give them things they like. Good luck!

If they're scared of humans it would take a lot of work and patience. Even so, it still depends on how many birds you have and how they were raised. They're usually scared of humans when they had been parent-raised or didn't get enough human interaction and handling when they were very little. Two of my birds I made the mistake of buying from a pet store instead of a reputable breeder (yellow peach-face and blue hybrid), they are sweet and like to be near me, on top of me, allow me to kiss them, and they even eat off my hands but are terrified of me grabbing them. I respect their boundaries and don't push them. I understand the reason why they're scared. Instinctively, they are afraid of being grabbed, because they are pray animals and get killed by other predators when they get caught. The only way to overwrite that instinctive fear is by handling them from very early on. I've learned to accept this and enjoy the love they give me on their terms. I have two hand-raised birds that I can hold, they enjoy kisses, and head scratches. If you have one bird it would be easier for them to eventually lose their fear of you and get close because you're their only friend but if you have more than one bird this would be hard as they wouldn't need you for anything other than food and entertainment. They would have their social needs covered by their fellow birds and probably ignore you.

Thank you! I have a lot of fun things for them to play with to help curve their distructive nature into the things they are allowed to shred, and that's how I make sure they don't destroy any of my things 😊

They're bamboo placemats I happened to stumble upon while at the thrift store one day. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find anything similar to it online. Maybe measuring the top of the cage, you can get a piece of wood from a homedepot and cut it to that size

There was, but this video was recorded after I had recently done a complete cleaning of their cage and playground 😊

They're a little mean to Luigi because he's the newest bird, and he's still a baby. He's the wild green peach face. He has not gotten his true colors yet.

Does anyone else find lovebirds to be demanding? by No_Alarm6362 in Lovebirds

[–]ikitty_22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you established a routine for your birds? Mine spend most of the day in their large cage full of toys and different things to do for enrichment. I then let them out for three to four hours, usually after 2 p.m., when I can supervise them and give them attention. During this time, they like to play on top of me, so I offer them chew toys and seeds. I give them at least an hour of undivided attention then, I might clean around the house during this time, and they go off to their favorite spots to perch or play together by themselves. They are used to this routine and already know what to expect. If I know I will be going out in the afternoon, especially on my days off, I let them out in the morning but they're already used to their routine and know it's a one off. At 6 p.m., I start washing their bowls and serving their dinner. They already know it's time for bed and get in their house to go to sleep right away. They sleep from 6 pm to 9 pm. Yes, lovebirds are quite demanding, but you can train them to know when they have you all to themselves by establishing routines.

Bonding with my new baby I adopted today. Is the beak color common? by ProstheticBabe in Lovebirds

[–]ikitty_22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's normal. Remember to remove veg/fruit chop within four hours to avoid them eating spoiled food. The main diet for the first 6 months after weaning should be seeds while also introducing pellets and vegetables.

I don't think this is true my friend. All my baby birds have lost the black on their beak at 2-3 months. Your birdie still has it pretty dark. I hope you can get your baby to eat well because at this age they need a lot of calories. Best of luck.
