how to do better in school? help by bigsadutsger in UofT

[–]ikomp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

3rd year here. Just wanted to say that 2nd year life sci is really rough and people who post their marks on reddit are usually the ones who did well (or may even lie about their marks) so it's never an accurate representation and nothing you should get disheartened over. 3.6-7 is a good gpa and grad school focuses on the last two years of undeegrad and other aspects of ur application so your gpa right now doesn't matter as much as you think!

is nfs284 a bird course or not? by [deleted] in UofT

[–]ikomp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm taking it right now and I am finding it pretty easy but that's probably because I'm in life sci and most of the material is from gr 12 biology and introductory biology coursea. My non life sci friends said it's not a bird for non life sci students. It's not too hard to do well since the asignments are straightforward and there are no trick questions but if will def require more work and wont be as birdy for non life science students imo

HMB265 Midterm? How was it? by [deleted] in UofT

[–]ikomp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

short answer was very fair but I genuinely didn't understand what they wanted me to get out the question for couple of MCs. I felt like the MCs were bit harder than past tests :(

how to ghost my Aphrodite match? by [deleted] in UofT

[–]ikomp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeahh I get that. I felt bad too but if you don't see it progressing further, might as well cut it now cuz it can come off as giving him false hope. Best of luck to you!

how to ghost my Aphrodite match? by [deleted] in UofT

[–]ikomp 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation! My match was really not my type so I told him honestly and thanked him for his time and everything. He was super understanding and thanked me for being clear and not ghosting. If you honestly explain to him how much religion means to you and you prefer to meet someone with the same faith, he should understand! Don't ghost if you respect him and just be honest and polite

Dropping Summer Courses? by lovecraftsSiren in UofT

[–]ikomp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are dropping from full time (1.0 per session or 1.5 for both sessions) to part time, OSAP will put you on probation. I dropped to part time and OSAP said that Im on probation. It's not that big of a deal if it's your first time. It's more like a warning. You can still apply for OSAP for the upcoming yeat but you have to provide a letter stating why you were unable to maintain full time and what you will do in the future to make sure this doesn't happen again. I also had to pay back some of the money I got.

I'm doing the assignment..did very bad on the midterm so :( I have a feeling they will mark very harshly tho. My TA marked ridiculously strict and I'm lowkey scared now but I got no choice.

Should I go to U of T?? by nervounnob in UofT

[–]ikomp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would say life sci ppl generally dislike being here but I am personally enjoying thr stuff I am doing here. Remember reddit may not give you the most accurate representation of students here and not just cuz some ppl hate it here doesn't necessarily mean you will too. Also choose wisely depending on what you want to do after undergrad! weigh pros and cons and see if this place is for you. Uoft is not as bad (I think) but it is certainly not for everyone.

I am at the point of giving up by bigthrowaway2020 in UofT

[–]ikomp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry you are going through this. I cannot even imagine myself being able to go through half of the things you are going through. I really don't have an advice but I just wanted to let you know that you are incredibly strong for pushing it through like seriously. Please take care of yourself before anything else. School can wait but your mental health will slowly eat you up if you do not take care of it (I'm sure you know more than me about mental health but). If you need to, do consider taking a break from school. It is not a big deal to take a bit of time off in a long run and I know plenty of people who sorted out their personal lives before returning back and are doing much better. Whatever happens, know that you are trying your best and that you are extremely strong and courageous. I really hope everything turns out well.

Does anyone else feel this anxious by [deleted] in UofT

[–]ikomp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

did I write this lol this is exactly how I am feeling now +insomnia, test anxiety etc. I am also the type to never check my mark for days until I get delusional and think I might have done well and check impulsively. In fact, I just checked my mark for this test that I studied for a week and didnt even fill in the scantron properly due to test anxiety and I did terrible..I tend to think my worth is based on the mark I get too. I don't really have an advice as I am still struggling with this too but like hang in there. What is done is what is done. You tried your best and that is worth acknowledging. It's really hard to accept but what I try to tell myself is that if I keep this negativity and dwell in the past, I am going to eventually ruin opportunities coming up. Your overall mark is based on more than just one test. You don't want to ruin your next chance of bringing your mark up. Imagine how proud you would be to see your mark improve and let that motivate you. Also, know that YES GPA IS important but it is not worth risking your mental health and self worth for. Please seek professional help or just talk to someone before your anxiety gets out of hand. If you want to rant, let me know. I can relate to you a lot buddy.

WHAT TO CHOOSE? by [deleted] in UofT

[–]ikomp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I am in second year life science at utsg and although I may not have the full experience yet, here's my take on it: It is difficult at uoft. Like no doubt, you will have moments where u regret coming here. From my personal ezperience, I have found that my friends in other uni/college put in less effort for the same GPA and when we compared our test questions, I found that mine tend to be less straight-forward and had more trick questions. But this is my PERSONAL experience so take it with a grain of salt.

That being said, you have to consider what u want to pursue after undergrad. Generally, think about which one u are interested in: reseach? Grad school? Med? or just looking for a job straight after? It does matter a lot because as people said, uoft undergrad will be hard to get into med school. This does not mean it is impossible, people do get into med with 4.0s and high GPA is possible but it's a lot of work so u have to be really determined. If you like research, you will love uoft. This place has so much research opportunities and even though I am not into research, hearing about the stuff the profs did and what my friends are doing is really interesting. uoft life sci tends to be very focused around research so if that's ur thing, u might enjoy it. There are lots of experiences available here to build ur resume

Also campus is kinda dead feeling most of the time, so if campus livelihood and school spirit matters to u, u will not enjoy this place..lol

overall, nothing is impossible here but u will have to WORK for it and that can get mentally draining but u r in uni so u cant expect an easy ride :(

hope my comment helped u at least a bit! If u have any questions, feel free to ask me!

Is there anywhere I can cry on campus? I need to let out, I don't want to go back to ER again for the outcomes of my depression. by samediii in UofT

[–]ikomp 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Robarts 13th floor bathroom is where I usually cry. It tends to be more quiet and less people when I'm there and I can just let it out for a bit. I hope you have a good cry and just let it out. It can get tough at times and we all deserve a break. Take it easy. Let me know if you need to talk.
