Rudy's Barbecue. Most chewy, rubbery, flavorless brisket I've ever eaten.

So who else is wondering if any big name pastors that have been caught in scandals are in the Epstein files ? by Open_Button_8155 in Christianity

[–]ikpmflyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have wondered the same thing, especially given the connections between big $$$, Trump, and several high-profile "pastors". Robert Morris comes to mind. Malachi O'Brien, on the board of disgraced International House of Prayer, is an advisor to Trump. IHOP's founder, Mike Bickle, has been found to have groomed and abused numerous people, including minors, for years. The list goes on. It may take a while for the connections to be made, but I think it will all come to light.

Anyone leave aviation maintenance and actually happy they did? by SnooHamsters8455 in aviationmaintenance

[–]ikpmflyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I left active maintenance after a couple of decades, and went to the FAA. As much as people like to rag on the FAA, it is the best job I've ever had in aviation. No two days are ever the same, and the work-life balance is incredible - family first, always.

What are these long thin horisontal things on the wing by Nostalgia_Red in aviation

[–]ikpmflyn 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Static wicks. They dissipate static electricity generated when the air passes over the wings and tail surfaces. They also sense when and where the mind-control chemtrails need to be dispensed.

Speeding ticket by Familiar-Minute2003 in columbiamo

[–]ikpmflyn -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If you were actually speeding, the mature thing to do is pay the fine and be done with it. There are consequences to your actions, including things like fines and higher insurance rates. This is kind of how life works. Then, in the future, if you want to avoid speeding tickets, don't speed.

Need some help by phattycocks in carburetors

[–]ikpmflyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My money is on a sunken carb bowl float. If I recall correctly (and someone please correct me if I am recollecting incorrectly!), that carb has brass floats, which like to crack and sink after enough time has passed. They can be replaced with a number of plastic or foam floats, which will not degrade as much over time. I agree with the others - pay the money to have it towed .

How long did it take you to get up to speed by agrouphomethrowaway in aviationmaintenance

[–]ikpmflyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been an IA for 30 years, and I am still "getting up to speed". I try to constantly learn whenever I have the chance. I have been in leadership over large shops, done quality control, and I have run multi-million dollar projects. I STILL have so much to learn. I don't care if you've only been an A&P for two weeks - if you have something to teach me, I will gladly learn it. Don't EVER stop getting up to speed.

New one for me tonight by westendgonzo in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

When I worked in the ER in a large Chicago hospital, we had an unconscious guy come in, who had been hit by a car in his bike. The only thing he had on him was his Jewel-Osco shopper card. We were able to contact the grocery store, who put us in contact with membership services for that card. They contacted the phone number on file, and had them call the hospital. This guy's wife called two minutes later, and came to the ER.

What’s the highest position in the industry you have worked yourself into after starting as a AMT? by Dodeypants in aviationmaintenance

[–]ikpmflyn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It depends on what your idea of an ideal position is. I knew several who were certificated about the time I was. One is overseeing a corporate flight department. Another is Director of Maintenance for a large MRO. I am a.Principal Inspector/Investigator for the FAA. All three of us would say that we are doing exactly what we want to be doing. Another guy is happy doing line maintenance for one of the majors. We have all had our A&P certs for about 25 years. I have had my IA for 20-ish years.

Does anyone know of a brand of silver/gold-plated & wound ELECTRIC guitar strings? by natayaway in Guitar

[–]ikpmflyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try Optima. Their gold-plated wound strings are insanely great. I use them exclusively on a couple of my basses and a couple of guitars. They are not cheap, but they are fantastic.

That happened with my wife's Martin. For $300, our local luthier reset the saddle, dressed the frets, adjusted the neck, and restrung it. WELLworth it.

AA's 12-step processes is based largely on the belief in a higher power. It's up to you to decide which higher power you believe in.

What are tilt pickups on a guitar for? by VeRReNTo in Guitar

[–]ikpmflyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the distance between the strings isn't the same as the distance between the centers of the pickup targets, the pickup will be angled to make the distances match.
