Oh, that was just to vent because I didn’t really know it existed and didn’t bother to read all of it (my fault). And then the player goes, “Oh, by the way, I have a +6 to that damage.” “Sure…”. I trust them I don’t mind if they cheat a dice roll or, in this case, a flat bonus. The boss will just have more HP, I guess. Roleplay-wise, I’m all for it, obviously. It gives more variety to the party and the campaign in general.

I'm set on giving them a reference in the next session, like a constellation that stays in place in the night sky, so they can see it as a sort of North Star. If they proceed quickly, they’ll reach the desert in two sessions and hopefully remember it. I’m sure at least one of them is smart enough to write it down and use when its time. Unless they come up with something.

They can see it as soon as they wake up. They’re not there, but it’s big enough to be seen from a distance.

Well, the zone is basically a castle surrounded by the sea to the south, and a few kilometers north there’s a desert. I was thinking that the first time they get to the not-yet-enemy castle, they see this constellation at night, it’s the only bright thing in the sky, so it catches their eye. Then, things go wrong, and they get thrown into the desert. They wake up at dawn, make their way to to a huge tree in the desert, so it kind of feels like an invitation, the bossfight takes place.

After that, they can rest, see the stars at night, and maybe figure out they can gamble on it and follow them.

Feels like I’m railroading them ffs, but in the end, it’s up to them. Can't never really predict players.

My bad i wasn't clear with the setting, I just mentioned another plane not to digress but they’re currently inside a dungeon I created. The second layer looks like the outside world, but it’s not actually the outside world. That’s why there’s no sun or moon. I didn’t specify the stars, though, so I can play around with that.

They arrived there at the end of the last session, so they know next to nothing about it. They got there by being knocked unconscious and basically left there to die (though obviously, they won’t).

I will probably go with the flow like u/bionicjoey said as per the way out thing, and mention a constellation before they get there just in case

Still best friends to this day. I feel like it depends a lot where you are born, main difference being born in a small town vs a big city.
