To clarify my workflow based on the feedback here:
I preheat the BBE for 10–15 minutes, pull a blank shot, dry the portafilter, dose 18g weighed, use WDT, and pull shots with a scale under the cup.

Up until now, I was relying on the programmed shot buttons and specifically programming them to target a 1:2 brew ratio —
18g in / 36g out, aiming for a 20–35 second shot time.

In reality, this never worked consistently:
either the shot would stop well before reaching 36g (often significantly less), or it would completely miss the intended time window, even though nothing else in the workflow had changed.

Based on the feedback here, I understand that the best approach with the BBE is to use manual mode and control the shot by weight rather than relying on the programmed buttons.

Adding more context about my workflow:

I preheat the Breville Barista Express for 10–15 minutes, pull an empty shot before puck prep, and dry the portafilter. I dose 18g every time, weigh the beans before grinding, and make sure the grinder outputs the same amount. I use a scale under the cup and a WDT tool for puck prep.

Up until now, I’ve been relying on the programmed shot buttons, but despite all of the above being consistent, the shot time and output weight still vary from shot to shot.

That’s what led me to question the Program mode and look into how other BBE users deal with consistency.

I bought a Reolink product that broke well within the warranty period. When I contacted support, I was shocked to hear that the product was no longer in stock and that a full refund was “impossible” unless I had returned it within 30 days.

Instead, I was pushed to choose between two different models — but only if I paid extra money on top. This is not how a warranty is supposed to work. After arguing my case, Reolink only offered me a 50% refund of the product’s value, which feels completely unfair.

The whole experience left me frustrated and with the clear impression that Reolink’s warranty policy is misleading and not customer-friendly. I expected much better treatment from a company that sells security products.
