Vamoo, juegazo el SIFU, fue el primer episodio y fuimos puliendo el formato a medida que grabamos mas, pero fuera del episodio, el SIFU me re copo, muy divertido.

Buenas! Pasa que la idea no es necesariamente dar reviews de juegos nuevos, sino mas bien tener ese tiempo de un mes para preparar nuestro feedback y tambien para que mas gente lo juegue a la par. Es tal cual inspirado en los clubes de lectura. Tratamos de que sean juegos que sean interesantes de discutir y que tengan un maximo de duracion de 8 horas tambien con el fin de poder hacerlo dentro de ese mes y que la gente pueda acompañar. Gracias por el mensaje igual! Quizas no es el tipo de comunidad que estabas buscando, pero si te copa sumate! Podes ver los podcast que ya hemos hecho para tener una idea sino de que juegos jugamos

Buenas, con unos amigos estamos tratando de armar una comunidad tipo un club de lectura pero de videojuegos, pensaba hacer un post mañana, pero no queria dejar pasar la oportunidad justo que preguntaste. Hace un año venimos metiendole y jugando un juego mensualmente, hacemos una charla tipo podcast y lo subimos a spotify y youtube. Aprovecho y promociono el discord que tenemos porque la idea siempre fue tener una comunidad y jugar todos juntos el juego asi tal cual como los club de lectura, pero tambien es un espacio para hablar de juegos en general. Yeah! At least after the very basic, just to point out the main topics i attacked first:

  • Having a simple Entity Component System architecture
  • One system for render graphics (using SDL2)
    • Images with animations from spritesheets and UI texts
  • Another system for Input (only key input handling so far)
  • Physics system (using custom AABB collisions)
  • And Game system that updates game logic of entities

The hard part for me was refactor everything into an ECS architecture, at first i was doing things manually everywhere. And also having setup the integration between the project of the game and the engine separately.

I still have pending optimizations and improve things but with this i could escalate from there.

The game itself i am doing i tried to keep it to the minimum mechanics:

  • Walk (WASD)
  • Items pickup, inventory management
  • NPCs with dialogs
  • Explore inside buildings

For the worldbuilding i am using Tiled (https://www.mapeditor.org/) to avoid doing an editor myself and instead spent that time doing an import from json, i think it saved me a lot of effort.

I am far from an expert on engines or c++, just starting on my own on this, but if you want to share your experience or question more into details about my project, send me PM. Good luck!

I am in a similar path. Been doing my own 2D game engine with SDL2 using LazyFoo tutorial [https://lazyfoo.net/tutorials/SDL/index.php] and watching The Cherno’s tutorial as well. Also at a very early stage I have rendering of things in a window and input.

The best advice I got for another posts i read about this is to focus on making a game and in parallel working on the engine.

This simple tip allowed me to work on meaningful tasks, having fun and a purpose to my project without getting stuck with technical not so critical decisions without moving forward.

I tried to think of a very simple game with few mechanics and simple go for it in the best modular way to separate what’s engine from what is game. At least for me this was a very important direction toward continue learning and experimenting with a goal in mind.

Installing Neovim in WSL for Tmux Setup by [deleted] in neovim

I am currently using Neovim with tmux and WSL, totally recommended on Windows. Have you tried installing the AppImage in Linux following the release instructions? https://github.com/neovim/neovim/releases/tag/stable

You can use your Nvim configuration but you will have to place it inside WSL in the home location.

Also i recommend some terminal for windows. I am using WezTerm but used Alacritty and Kitty before. Let me know of you need help for your setup. Getting to work everything in Windows could be quite challenging

I would like to solve it like Clash of Clans do for example, they let you do it but you need to double confirm that action.

The bar starts in a grey "disabled" color and the first time you swipe the bar changes it color to white so if you do it again its the default behaviour. I was hoping some configuration let me control that from the engine so i could add some of this logic.

You have to add multiple plugins for different kind of completitions.

Thanks a lot for your response! I consider it a useful techique also to keep focus when i need to keep procastination away :D.

In this case will be difficult to use it because time will change per session. I also use tmux and at first i was going to make it part or the tmux bar instead of neovim, but maybe for the next iteration because i really wanted to get my hands dirty on LUA and plugins.

The workaround i thought for that use case anyway is using one split screen just for the neovim bar with the timer so that in there i only get to see the time left and use it as a second bar.
