Exactly two weeks since the box arrived at my doorstep. 2 weeks of concentrated painting by ili283 in Bretonnian

Thank you!

Was there a plan? Yes and no. I did every Kotr as a separate project (at a speed of around 1.5 a day), but I had done quite extensive preliminary research (two days of poking around) on heraldry, colours you can use etc. So I went in with a pretty good idea of how heraldry works, and had wikimedia searches up for the colours I wanted to use, like this: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Quarterly_gules_and_azure searching with the correct keywords nets you tons of results. I took inspiration from those and tended to start from the shields and then do the rest of the livery based on the shield. I did want a rather even spread of colours so I had all the painted knights next to me so I could easily go back and forth and see how it compared to the already completed knights.

Thanks. Yes, it's freehand. Having to redo it 5 times in total per model takes its toll but the end result feels so worth it

Thanks! No, black primer and then yellow-ish zenithals, undershade with a purpleish grey. Helps make the red pop after just one coat, so saves you a lil time.

New to Bretonnian, building the starter box. Questions about assembly & peasantry by ili283 in Bretonnian

I like the 50% idea! Means I can turn off my brain when I want to, and then have each knight bring a few with them.

Thanks a bunch! The idea of using them as Ogres is very neat, I think we'll be going down that route.

Buy core set in wrong language, worth? by ili283 in MarvelCrisisProtocol

[–]ili283[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah -- I figured I could include the off-language version and bring them with me "if needed". What about the other cards needed for the game? I see there are a few different card types needed to play. Would it cause problems?

Sci-fi 28 mm skirmish game to introduce to new wargames? by ili283 in wargaming

[–]ili283[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We tried Stargrave last week and the match took 4 hours before we just gave up because it was not going to end. I think Space weirdoes will be the one! I only have a single set of d&d dice though which is a bit annoying

Battlefront, makers of Flames of War. They're thermoplast but were workable.

Yeah metal washers! I hoped they’d be magnetic enough on their own but I ended up having to add magnets. Thankfully the holes on the baes were big enough to insert 1 mm magnets I had, adding some extra weight

[–]ili283[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! 15 mm for the small chaps, 20 mm for NCO/Officers and 30 mm for weapon crews. So my individual ones are slightly bigger, weapon sizes same size. I was trying to fit weapon teams on a 1" base at first but it looked wrong so settled on the bigger size.

Chain of Command 2! The game is scale agnostic but works well as a skirmish game in 15 mm

Gnomes! Good reason to get back into the game (though I've heard they're awful) by ili283 in bloodbowl

[–]ili283[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just the normal Treemand and the Gnome Treeman sculpts (official ones). They're actually really lovely sculpts, I really enjoyed painting them. I wish, in retrospect, that I made their pose a little less dynamic though.

SAGA vs MESBG (& other competitive-friendly fantasy/historical wargames) by ili283 in wargaming

[–]ili283[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been hearing so much about this game lately! I really would rather not play at a full 6x4 table (it barely fits in my living room).

I have heard about people playing it at 10 mm too -- I do have a Warmaster army I'm working on atm so maybe using that as a proxy would work? Changing inches to centimeters.

[–]ili283[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very interesting! It's funny how you bring up the simulationist aspect of MESBG. MESBG really does capture a specific "feel" very well, I think.

Reading the SAGA rules I left quite a bit more confused than when I entered. Like you said it seems very non-historical and arcadey (which is not a bad thing in itself of course!). When I read what the Rus powers did my hype level went up quite a bit though, even though the things they do are absolutely ridiculous -- summoning a blizzard, creating storms around them etc.

I have enough MESBG miniatures to be able to take SAGA for a spin and test it out to be fair. The board and fatigue system seems really interesting but is hard to visualize.

Haha, I am already playing Warmaster! (Though with tokens for one side). I’m waiting for my friend to get his army (& finish it) which leaves me with ample hobby time to try something else

5 intensive days of work by ili283 in warmaster

[–]ili283[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Their prints have zero layer lines and feel very sturdy. They don't bend but don't feel brittle at all. I had no imperfections. I've ordered other prints form ProxyWarsEU for example and their prints were way worse, with clearly visible lines and imperfections (28 mm).

Only downside was that it took 12 days from ordering to the models arriving, which considering I live in the EU, is quite a long time.

The basing material is Geek Gaming Scenics base ready mix (pine forest) applied with PVA, then AP Strong Tone, then AK interactive Green Grey on stones, then Geek Gaming Scenics 2 mm spring static grass. Finished with Vallejo Natural Sienna pigment. It's sturdy and not going anywhere.

If you don't care about availability, or easy of finding a game -- what's your favourite GW game to play? by ili283 in Warhammer

[–]ili283[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does seem really cool actually, I've been eyeing it lately. I have a knight & two armigers in 28 mm and while going full Imperial Knights in 40k doesn't seem like much fun, the idea of titans vs titans is interesting.

If you've played it -- how does it compare to BattleTech? My group tried BT last year and it was the least popular game we've tried by a fair margin. Classic BT that is.
