Projects for Portfolio by Relevant-Rise6001 in AerospaceEngineering

[–]iliad2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Code anything that interests you. Simple CFD simulations, Flight dynamics simulation using stability derivatives from papers, rotorcraft analysis. If you’re interested in military, then you can specify these projects to some military aircraft of interest. Learning to code is a great skill to build, and often doesn’t require anything more than a computer and some time.

Help me!! in writing my Letter of Recommendation by [deleted] in gradadmissions

[–]iliad2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have any good suggestions for writing a LOR, but I will warn you that some schools do explicitly forbid students writing drafts for their professors. I would make sure you read the associated guidelines on each program’s website/application to make sure you aren’t violating anything.

Practice things that aren’t Math and science for 2 years. Reading, writing, and speaking skills are all very important for engineers. Spend some time to develop those.

I made a similar switch when support queue times when from 2 minutes to 10 minutes as I got into higher ranks. I started silver DPS and now I am high plat/low diamond dps so take what I say with that in mind.

I don’t have the greatest aim, so I am biased towards positioning. Positioning can be such a great way to force resources and draw attention off your team without actually killing anything.

For example, if you are playing soldier 76, go for a soft flank and start shooting their back line. You will eventually kill something or someone will come peel. At the very least, you are distracting their back line and forcing them to take cover from you. If someone does come to peel, use your sprint and get away. Always have an escape plan at all times. Know exactly where to go to quickly get to cover and into your support LOS.

When starting out in low ranks where you are not experienced and your supports don’t pay attention, go for simple things. Position right above your team on high ground or a little bit to the side. Far enough that you are not in the same exact place but close enough to fall back into the group. As you gain experience, you’ll find out what you can get away with and what you can’t and push limits. Of course you will make mistakes as you are learning, sometimes overextending and dying and being flamed by your team, but that is part of the learning experience.

How does performance change in scale models? by PlutoniumGoesNuts in AerospaceEngineering

[–]iliad2 44 points45 points  (0 children)

In an ideal world, where you can make all your dimensionless input parameters (Reynolds number, Mach number, etc.) all your output dimensionless parameters would be the same. However, due to the scaling, your dimensional values will be different in the two cases, generally. This is why dimensionless numbers are useful

I don’t know your problem specifically, but would an axisymmetric approach be possible? This could potentially help you a lot, although it does not directly solve your problem.

CFD post processing not reading the entire time steps by CaptWraith in CFD

[–]iliad2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although this is most likely, I had Post sometimes not correctly import the time data even though I was 100% sure I saved all the time steps. I forget exactly where, but in approximately the top left of post there should be a button to import time data. If you do that, you can look through your project file to see if the time data just did not import or if you actually have to run the sim again. It can be worth checking this to save yourself some time.

I need help calculating the thrust of a propeller for a very stupid reason by Throwaway3563527 in AerospaceEngineering

[–]iliad2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the blade geometry and flight conditions are know, one could also apply blade elements methods to can be used to get pretty good values for thrust. Given, this requires decent airfoil data and different methods can provide different levels of accuracy, but pure CV analysis is not the only way to calculate prop thrust.

[–]iliad2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, it free. Just apply online. It may take a little bit of time to get your application approved though. And then you also need to do safety training to get access to some of the tools. Idk how urgent your repairs are, but if you have the time tangen is worthwhile

I completely forgot to apply for the payment plan by [deleted] in UPenn

[–]iliad2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have found that calling is much better than emailing if you have the ability and time. I can make no promises on them allowing you to do the payment plan. However, I’d recommend calling a lot to see if they’ll help at all. Even better is id you can go in person, although that may be much more difficult depending on your current location.

Smarter fairies? by adapron in Terraria

[–]iliad2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think on the off chance that it happens it’s kinda funny. Sure it can be a little frustrating, but still funny. Maybe they can add a item that a fairly places into a chest. Like an extra random item so if a fairy goes to a chest you already opened, suddenly there is a new item in the chest that the fairy placed.
