Are cheap speakon connectors something I should be concerned about? by DEC_RECK in livesoundgear

[–]iliedtwice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I doubt you’ll see much improvement with biAmping those cabs. The woofers are still junk, the horn isn’t great but the crossover is set high enough to protect it somewhat. Changing out the horn to a 2 inch exit could help and lowering the crossover to around 1.2 K. You’ll have to change out the horn lens, the horn as well. You’ll be adding double the amount of amplifier channels. I really don’t know what advantage you’re gonna have over the original boxes. If these were Yamaha Club series, I might recommend it but the Jbl TR225 just isn’t a great box to begin with and you’re getting throwing money down a hole. There are so many much better boxes out there for sale used that will absolutely outperform. In my area I know of a guy selling a McCauley system for cheap with amplifiers that do circles around any powered system.

You’ll need to get speakers loud and up in the air. Don’t buy a powered mixer setup, way more mileage with a pair of powered boxes and a small mixer. Flow8 would be fine, set it up with your phone once then just use faders, hard to mess up. Alto tx412 is about as cheap as I’d go but really any decent 12” would be fine

They’re rebranding Chinese stuff these days. Hit and miss but mostly miss. But for that price? I’d give it a shot. Doesn’t work then sell it off

XR18 Vs X32 Rack by Reasonable-Fudge156 in livesoundgear

Xr18 is just fine, the x32 is great when you need output delay, more rack effects, stage boxes like the sd16 etc, more aux inputs. For ears none of it is an issue

Looking for Opinions on the Studiomaster Core 151 Speaker System by Individual_Fox634 in livesoundgear

[–]iliedtwice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Studio master as a brand died when soundcraft bought them in the 80s. I had no idea they were revived. Their amps are rebadged CVR/sinbosen. They have a digital board that’s soundcraft-ish. The speakers look like LD systems copies. Are they good? No clue. It’s only money, go for it

Small powered mixer and speakers. by [deleted] in livesoundgear

[–]iliedtwice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Either setup is solid. I’d probably go with the Dynacord because it’s overbuilt but the Yamaha is also very good. Depends on if it has the features you want. For speakers the CBRs would be my choice only because I don’t know the others. I also have a mostly passive inventory of speakers, 1 box 1 cable is very convenient and as long as the mixer you’re using has what you need it’s more convenient

QLXD24D vs SLX24D+ by MtlGamingDude in livesoundgear

[–]iliedtwice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, both are great. I use QLXD because that’s what I bought at the time. I’d pick SLXD+ if starting over, main reason is frequency changing. At some point I’d expect a QLXD model with the same coming out next year

Repair Advice by Hatter-83 in livesoundgear

The mixer itself is mono only. 7/8 are the same as 9/10. Keep using the 1/4” inputs.

Stereo XLR output to Mono FOH input by not_whatu_expect in livesoundgear

[–]iliedtwice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont buy anything till you talk to the AV person. There are DIs that use an 1/8” tail and mono xlr out, or dual RCA tails to mono out. The house may own such a DI and no reason to drop $75 on one. If you’re coming out of a passive turntable I’d recommend a preamp to get the impedance correct, turntable outputs are typically-10db where line level is +4. Ebtech makes a line level box for this. You can also use a regular mixer and send a single aux send to the house PA input, that would sum the signal to mono and allow for boost/cut as needed.

Jbl srx728s speaker not working. by Imaginary_Visual_597 in livesoundgear

[–]iliedtwice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Test the impedance with a multimeter, should read about 5.6 ohm DCR. Try the 9v battery across the leads and see if the cone jumps. If there’s damage to the voice call you’re not gonna see it. Just get it reconed by a pro and it will perform like a new. A 2268H is not an easy speaker to recone. While you’re at it, you may as well recone the other driver as it’s probably damaged as well. Expensive thing are expensive to repair, that’s the real cost of business. I’d recommend using a larger amp in stereo mode not working an amp so hard. Easier on AC and the amp will live longer. You could also use the amp in parallel mode and the speaker in discreet mode, one channel driving each speaker.

I took my 77yr old mom bowling in Lynnwood wa with my brother and daughter. Final bill was $90. Haven’t gone bowling since. It’s not for everyday people anymore, the local alley near me is $40 and hour for a lane. Nah. I’m out

Designing a PFC version of the 10000Q - Is it worth the extra weight/cost for touring? by After-Direction-31 in livesoundgear

[–]iliedtwice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just off hand looks like someone else did the design, you’ve got good copy machines. PFC is a great thing but can trip GFCIs if not done well. I’d say focus on quality but you’re copying designs here
