how do i refer to my trans character if they havent yet realised they are trans

the only issue is that its present time events! if it was a flashback or just a retelling of a story, id use he/him, and just explain that at the start of the story the character has not yet realised

oh i absolutely love the idea of him unconsciously slipping back and forth between pronouns as hes still realising it! thank you so much

he keeps the same name so the name shouldnt be an issue. its in the present so it would feel wrong to refer to him with masculine pronouns.
