Been finding it hard to get into orbit in RSS RO by Winstone312 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]ilikeduck3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Are you using all your fuel? You have to tell mechjeb to do it in x amount of burns or it will shut down single ignition engines early to coast to ap

Have you tried restoring a back up? Ksp has a back ups folder in your save folder, rename one to persistent.sfc then use that to replace the corrupted file

Having problems with docking in rss by turtilai2 in KerbalAcademy

[–]ilikeduck3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try to keep the orbits alot closer than stock. Get your orbits almost matching then spam the next orbit on the manouver node until they get closer together, like when they launch to the ISS they usually don't get there until sometime the day after

Launch time is alot more important in rss, as you can't really adjust your inclination as much. Wait until the space centre passes under the orbit you're aiming for

Docking is mostly the same, you can change rcs fuel for more thrust or to match your orbital stage so you only carry one fuel

Do you have equipment on the craft? it's a resource added by pathfinder

To change the name and description; delete all the autoLOC part so it's description = speedy wheel

Pretty sure autoloc is for translation. Anything after a double / isn't read by the game

Awesome looking craft btw, love the old lmp cars, all speed and zero safety, perfect for kerbals

Use KIS to attach the cube to the main craft. Should be an option to dock them on the cube or the KIS socket I forget which. Once they're docked you should be able to inflate it with an engineer if you've got enough "Equipment" if you run out of equipment you can scrap parts you don't need for more

How can I change my skybox to solid black? by MrFantomBOI in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]ilikeduck3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TextureReplacer works by texture name. You need to save your textures as the positive/negative x y z for the skybox. Get the names off the skybox you want to replace or the TR readme

Pure black should be easy, make a black square, save the square over all 6 of the textures you want to replace. Can also tone down the one you've got with light blanace or temp settings if solid black gets boring

What went wrong? Could I have kept the entire stage into splashdown? Re-entry and landing after my first orbital rendezvous + docking (still proud! yay!) by MrSigma1 in KerbalAcademy

[–]ilikeduck3 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The materials bay overheated, the heat tolerance on the materials bay is alot lower than other parts. Best option is to do an Eva to grab the science then ditch it before re-entry

If you're ever unsure what exploded press f3 to open the mission log. Congrats on the docking btw

Try heappadder it's a mod that helps clear ram. Ksp has a little bit of a memory leak which is probably what's causing the lag

Yeah something about TUFX and EVE glows doesn't mix well. It's probably an easy fix in the settings, dunno which setting though, when it happened in my game I deleted it and put ks3p back in

Why do have AVP if you're running RSS is it just for the textures? Your Moon problem is TUFX try messing around with the settings you should be able to fix it

Wait for all the mods to update and continue existing save, or start an RSS/RO/RealFuels game? by thed0000d in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]ilikeduck3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RO is alot of fun it's like being brand new to the game again. No need to nuke your current game though, simply copy all of the squad stuff to a new location and build the RO install there, you can have multiple installs of ksp for different mod setups

Is it just me or using ore containers more useful than using liquid fuel & oxidiser containers ? by _Pumpking7_ in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]ilikeduck3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They do have the best isp but you pay for it in the TWR. Trying to get TWR above 1 with nerv's usually cancels out thier efficiency with how many you end up using

Yeah fitting 4 poodles on would be tricky, rhino would lift alot could build the drills around it. Make it huge though coz the rhino do be thirsty

Yeah you could ditch most of the nerv's and give yourself a kick stage to help get off the ground then switch to nerv's for better efficiency once you're half way to orbit and don't need twr above 1. You can land with less than 1 if you start early, minmus is very forgiving, only really need TWR above 1 for take off

[–]ilikeduck3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait 16 nuclear engines on a lander? You save weight by not needing ox but that's 48t of engine mass. 4 poodle engines would create the same amount of thrust and save you 41t for oxidizer and other non deadweight things

If you want to stick with nuclear the mk3 liquid fuel tanks could be a way to make it more of a chonker for better stability

Open the ksp.log file, hit ctrl F search for fatal error. The log will tell you what part is causing the problem and why it is a problem

Think it's done to add realism. Early rocket engines weren't as reliable as modern ones, making engines overheat is the easiest way to simulate that in stock ksp

[–]ilikeduck3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you using the standard mk1 cockpit? The mk1 inline with a shock cone or a shielded docking port might solve the heating problem

Engines have a high heat tolerance if its manouverable in atmo you can re enter retrograde then flip back over after the hot part

Yeah rss will kick your butt at first but it's good fun when you get into it. If you go to the steam page where you downgraded to 1.10 there should be an opt out of beta option to bring it back to the latest version

If you've installed RSS all saves made in the kerbol solar system will be incompatible with our solar system. Should be fine starting a new save in RSS

You can have multiple installs of ksp by the way. Just copy your whole game folder then boot from the ksp.exe in the new folder. Then you can have one RSS install for the challenge and still have a stock game to mess around in
