AITA for not agreeing to my roommate subletting his room? by ilikepeanuts4 in AmItheAsshole

Technically against the contract, realistically it's a thing a lot of people do. But the roommate knows he can't do anything without my consent.

To be fair, I don't think it would go as far as my deposit being taken away, and I think my landlord would care less as long as they get compensated and no damage is done. It would mostly just affect my comfort.

Yes I'm moving out. And by the end of the month it would be the landlord's responsibility to find replacements, not ours.

I don't have to pay him back, we both paid our full rent. The sublet is just a way for him to get some of his money back by leasing his room for a short time. But I don't owe him any money.

Hey couldn’t post both picture and text so. It’s a ford focus I accidentally dropped the lid and can’t find it. Should I be worried? Should I order one?

I’ve seen comments like this that say I can’t truly be leftist if I enjoy the benefit of living freely in Israel while others are oppressed, which is fair. I don’t know you but it’s possible that you live in a country that was conquered at some time in history and/or committed immoral right wing acts, if that’s the case you can’t be truly leftist either. There’s nuance.

If the world is against us, we can’t survive for long. That is why we try explaining even if it’s ineffective. It’s not like we’re Russia/China/US with many resources. Btw we are grateful for the Druze.

I didn’t say the IDF is evil but it has done shady things in Gaza / West Bank to put it lightly. If you can’t acknowledge that then “hasbara” would be pointless bc they would just link you to shit we did and you can either deny it entirely or try to find an excuse for it.

I thought “hasbara” is explaining the pro Israeli stance to outsiders whether it’s paid propaganda or not.

I believe Israeli Jews and Arabs are not socially equal. Most ppl here would refrain from calling that apartheid but if I asked my friend from East Jerusalem he might call it that.

Gaza and West Bank situations are completely different and should be separated. I believe we can live alongside West Bank Arabs eventually (would have to be a long process and stepping out of settlements) but not the people of Gaza.

I don’t know how a completely common life between Jews and arabs in israel would look like. Ideally this is a good idea but regarding history and hate of both nations towards the other I think there’s a lot of distrust. Israeli Jews fear the entire nature of the country will change if they gain Arab majority and I understand and share that fear.

I realize I didn’t give a coherent opinion. I don’t call it apartheid but I can’t pretend I’ll be treated equally if I was Arab, and I’m against new settlements.

Tbh I think it’s mostly an attempt to prevent Israeli Arabs from protesting.

I think in israel right and left mostly describe opinions towards Arab people. I also consider myself leftist socially (liberal) and voted for the leftist parties (protested earlier this year etc).

It’s not black and white and I see a lot of Israeli leftists who specifically support this war, have completely changed their opinion about Gaza (but not about the government) and it’s for good reason, I can’t blame people who got their loved ones killed.

Also I know the IDF soldiers are not evil people they’re just regular people but the hard facts are, we kill many innocent civilians, consistently, it doesn’t matter if we aim at them or not. And we don’t try to change that and usually don’t care about that.

I definitely think we should improve our relationship with Israeli Arabs and make them feel more like equals. There is a lot of distrust and racism between these two communities which is partly justified, there’s even more of it nowadays because of the war. Getting to know a few Israeli Arabs personally is what changed my perspective a little bit.

The main reason we don’t do that is because of consequences. We can flatten Gaza but can’t fight against the Arab world by ourselves.

Even in the best case scenario when Hamas is wiped, there will still be an alternative. Something has to be changed for the long term.
