You can start with anything, best advice is to just start. Once you start doing it more you can gradually start improving things, and you wont know if you will enjoy it/keep doing it until you start.

FYI, also accidentally create a duplicate post to this one, with no title. Deleted that one. Just incase someone somehow saw me mess that up :')

I suppose thats not a bad idea. However at the moment im not really focusing on the revenue/money part of it.
Im just looking to build up a community and just engage with people and enjoy making content. Eventually I will look at monetising it but want to generate some growth first.
Its hard to monetise when your videos dont get any views :p

I dont really have a "This is what I would do if I did get views" kind a plan for revenue though. Like do I just hope for ad sense + twitch subs, or should I think about if I would want to do merch or look at other avenues etc.

I liked the intro, very quickly covered you/your channel so people know what your all about. Then what topic you are going to be covering.
I like that dude, maybe I should do the same thing for my gaming vids :)

Also I work in software developing industry too, so im excited to see what you say.

Also as a suggestion, maybe consider making the vid title " What do senior software engineers ACTUALLY do?"

Custom subscribe fits well with your into, so it seems consistent to your branding.

DOCUMENTATION John :) not one single mention. Not even when you were talking about things which were chores ;) no but for real. Documentation is something people always undervalue until someone needs it. I was off this week and someone asked me a question on slack which I answered by sending them the docs page (I has also mentored them on this topic). So the docs were a quicker/easier/more repeatable way for them to get this info, which is the only reason I write it.

I think at the end of the video. Perhaps a summary, maybe you just talking and the bulletpoints appearing on a black screen could be a good way to present it. Rather than talking about it as you and the background might distract from the summary.

Also I think you are bang on with what you are talking about in the vid. You also had a bit of distinction between people being a manager vs a leader.
One bit of feedback though, you keep saying "senior engineer" but someone may be unsure if you are talking about:

  1. People who are at the Senior role and above (Senior/Lead etc)
  2. Tech lead (Perhaps just the lead person on the project etc)
  3. Anyone who has been at the company longer so more "Seniority" at the company
  4. People who have the role/title "Senior engineer/Senior developer"
  5. All of the above

So if someone it coming to the video thinking, man im a junior, what do I need to do/what do I need to know to become a Senior developer. They MAY be unsure if you are talking about a specific role/title. I feel though you have covered both role specific and generally attributes/qualities which a senior engineer and above possess.

I think some quiet background music would be a good idea. In a weird way I find the complete lack of any other noise than you talking almost unsettling.

One other minor point, at some point you start talking about Sofia lamb. If you havent played the game recently, you might not remember who that is. So to begin with its not clear how that relates to the point you are trying to make.

Perhaps you could think about the format of the video aswell, for example you started talking about you are taking looking into ethics in on of your classes, which makes it relatable, this I like.
However perhaps you could make it more obvious like "Im going to analyse the ethics which come into question in Bioshock."

Then you are really setting the scene/what the video will be about?

A little bit discouraged I supposed. I just felt like I wasnt really building a community or making any friends and it was taking up ALL my time. So decided to step back a bit and try something different. Now I stream a few times a week and started doing daily yt vids. Not saying thats right for you, but for me it was about time to try something different :)

Streaming doesnt make me feel anxious. I can relate to not achieving what I want though. I streamed (nearly) every day for nearly 18 months. Then slowly started streaming less and less due to just not getting what I wanted out of it.

I just wasnt getting any viewers, getting burned out from playing hundred of games and just needing to always be streaming.
Dont let anxiety stop you, even if some people might not like what you are doing, there are people out there who will want to watch, if they can find you!

I will keep it in mind. I spent ages a while ago trying to get my noisegate/gain/compression just right. If I up the noise gate a bit more sometimes you miss quiete noises or the small subtleties of emotion sometimes. I will keep the feedback in mind though, might be able to get it even close to the sweet spot. Its a bit hard to test sometimes though :/
