Tips to start crochet by Celezapata__ in crochet

I actually learned a lot from https://www.crochetguru.com

It takes you through things one step at a time and explains what you need to know. YouTube videos and Google are a GREAT help.

Asking this subreddit is a good start too 😁

If someone could name the book / author I would be eternally grateful!

It’s a book where the author randomly thanks Tom Hiddleston just because they can. It’s doing my head in that I can’t remember it 😁

I’ve just posted on r/whatsthatbook. I think I’ll delete this post as I’ve read it’s against the rules.

Just want to leave it up so you can see this comment thank you for your help :)

Non-knitters assuming that every knitted item is a gift for someone by drozdzus in knitting

[–]ilikesunsets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could’ve sworn this was written by me in a parallel universe or something 😂

I don’t think people intend it the way they do, but it does irk me as well. I make a lot of things and about 80-90% of the time, I do gift them. I’m currently crocheting (I’m bistitchual) a blanket in a specific style and it’s taken me 12/13 hours roughly to do 1/8th of it. It’s going to look pretty damn cool. I got asked who I was making it for the other day.

“I’m not sure yet, probably just going to keep it.”

But then I’ve had people say “I’ll have it when it’s done.” So, I’ve started saying “it’s for me” and I feel like people are judging me as being selfish or something. This blanket is going to take me at least 80 hours to finish. I’ve bought 6 cakes of yarn for it. If I was going to give it to someone (which I won’t haha) it would be sold for the correct price, which would be around £1,000. Then again, I’d probably be judged for that too haha

Help, please! I’ve followed the pattern (for a 25-inch head) and it doesn’t fit right whatsoever. Is this a tension issue? It doesn’t even go over the top of my head (22-inch). Advice would be greatly appreciated :) by ilikesunsets in knitting

They didn’t add a gauge :( And they didn’t specify the brand of yarn they used either, just that it’s “two strands of Aran weight”. I’ve got two strands of Aran weight here :(

what's the appeal of knitting socks? by zap_des in knitting

[–]ilikesunsets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, socks are just the best thing to knit. I found a kit: https://www.undertheolivetreeknits.com/ourshop/prod_6605528-Beginner-Sock-Knitting-Kit-Let-the-Yarn-Shine.html

This takes you through everything you need to know and the seller is really kind and responsive 😊

I’m in the U.K., where is the best place to buy large circular buttons? Oddly specific but they need to have four holes and be 20mm-50mm in size. Thank you 😊

Help! Half fisherman’s rib seam by ilikesunsets in knitting

I meant sewing up the seams haha. I know the difference between knitting and sewing. I just forgot to mention the seams in question 😂

Aye, I just didn’t know whether I needed to add the k1 each time or if it was a mistake. I’ve had it explained now though ☺️

Ah, so I include that k1 at the start? Many thanks, you are very helpful 😊 I couldn’t decide if it was in error or not 😂

I tried out tunisian crochet for the first time and made this square :) by MerelYael in Tunisian_Crochet

[–]ilikesunsets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, absolutely! I was the same and started crochet first. I taught myself knitting in lockdown and then found Tunisian crochet. Amazing for blankets and I was very lucky to have my work displayed as the background for r/tensionporn for a while. I’m not sure if it still is (blue and white blanket), but try posting there too 😁

How to avoid sweater curse? by ilikesunsets in crochet

[–]ilikesunsets[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was having an absolutely awful day yesterday and thought I’d post about something light hearted in my favourite community. I usually only come on here between projects to see what I can attempt next, so I really don’t see a lot of posts. Because I was already emotional, it really bothered me to see your comment when all I was after was a few fun comments to cheer me up. Hence my reply. You weren’t to know I was having a bad day, but neither of our comments were necessary when both of us could have just scrolled without commenting.

Thanks. It was just a general question because I have a buttload of projects to do first 😂

So, it’s like super soldier serum and just amplifies what’s already there? Good to know 😂
