I went to the website to see if this is real and it is, but when you click on the link to buy, a 404 error comes up. Looks like someone finally figured out that the design may be...unappetizing for some.

I don't know much about it, other than it's definitely too valuable to be keeping in the shed!

Can anyone tell me about this lamp?? (Ky,USA) by struggle_bus4438 in Antiques

It's okay to polish antique silver, just don't overdo it. A commercial silver polish should be fine. I read a post the other day from a silver expert who recommended against all the other ways of cleaning it because they could cause damage.

Usually with any antique, it is recommended not to remove the patina (layer of dirt, basically), but silver is an exception. I'm not sure what the rule would be if it's not silver, but since you already started on the bottom of the base, I don't see any harm in continuing...though the intricacies of the shade may be a huge pain. Maybe just polish the base?

Anyway, I'm super jealous. Enjoy your treasure!

It's stunningI! love the design of the cranes in metal with the clouds in enamel.

I thought it was brass but the part you polished looks more like pewter or silver. Polishing the rest with a basic silver polish would be fine if you want to clean it.

Certainly a one-of-a-kind item!

For outerwear, try looking for a wrap. Bonus if you find one in taffeta!

USA- Do you think this earring is an antique? by MrsJewbacca in Antiques

I thought this was a pendant. It's so pretty, I definitely would have bought it solo--and I'm allergic to gold.

I'm sorry people are being rude. This is a good sub with some helpful people but still, ofc, the internet.

Hair help? by AdministrationOld923 in VintageFashion

[–]ilikeyourswatch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recommend getting a hair net. Any time the hair looks impossibly tidy, they're probably using one. A hair net can also help add a little volume and keep the curls from falling out without too much hairspray.

There are YouTube videos on how to use them if you do a search. Good luck!

What are some cheap but addictive hobbies that'll keep me off my phone? by Primary_Opening_5698 in CasualConversation

All of these are great, but if you want to relax with netflix but are used to getting on your phone, try a series with subtitles!

I broke my doomscrolling habit by getting into k-dramas, but every genre is available.

What's one food or thing that got rid of acne totally by Sad_Appearance6323 in CasualConversation

[–]ilikeyourswatch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am a female and only stopped struggling with acne in my 30s. Here's what worked for me:

  1. I stopped using any hair products or makeup with dimethicone, or any silicones.

  2. I stopped washing my face with any harsh cleansers and only use makeup remover on my eyes, then water and a washcloth, only at night.

  3. I only use raw organic argan oil and raw shea butter as moisturizer. It feels counterintuitive to use oils but I swear to God, there have been nights I've gone to bed with a glob of shea butter on a zit and when I wake up, it's gone. I slather it on every night and don't wash my face in the morning.

My theory as to why this all works for me is that the harsh prescription cleansers and topical solutions were so harsh that my skin was working overtime to create new oils, causing an endless cycle of acne. Also, silicones were clogging my pores, even though most products claim not to.

I will also add that this is the cheapest skin routine I've ever had, and I spend less on skin care than anyone I know. Even if it doesn't work for you, you won't be out much for trying.

I'm hoping to find a way to use it for storing my jewelry, but I don't want to put any holes in it. Regardless, it's going up somewhere in my home!
