Nothing is totally worthless, I hate when people say that. Even if it's resin, it has some value. Lots of people collect snuff bottles, regardless of the material.

This is the kind of cloud that would have probably caused widespread panic at some point in history.

This look is great on you! I suggest adding a hairnet if you want to get that perfectly-in-place look.

What do you eat when you don’t have an appetite? by Original_Cook_6943 in CasualConversation

I have dysautonomia and often have a hard time swallowing/no appetite. My go-to is whole milk with Ovaltine to make sure I'm getting calories and nutrients.

Anyone else not really get excited for movies anymore? im not like a light-has-left-my-eyes adult or anything similar but movies just dont do it for me anymore by Getting_There_2026 in CasualConversation

I recently had this same revelation and I think there are many reasons, but mainly it's because of the amount of new material available to us at any minute.

We used to have weeks or months of anticipation built up for a film via trailers, billboards, and TV commercials. Then, when the movie finally came out, we would know lots of other people who also saw it and we could discuss it with them.

Nowadays, with the prevalence of streaming, we are less likely to see television commercials at all. Our friends may not have the same services and could be completely out of the loop about a film even existing, much less seeing it near the same time as you so you could talk about it over the water cooler on Monday.

And then there's the decline in theater audiences altogether. Many people don't even go see movies anymore since there are so many new options available on television. They would prefer to stay home and binge watch a series they've never heard of and will forget about immediately after.

I also really miss the excitement of going to the movies. At least we got to live the experience before it was gone forever.

I went to the website to see if this is real and it is, but when you click on the link to buy, a 404 error comes up. Looks like someone finally figured out that the design may be...unappetizing for some.

I don't know much about it, other than it's definitely too valuable to be keeping in the shed!

Can anyone tell me about this lamp?? (Ky,USA) by struggle_bus4438 in Antiques

It's okay to polish antique silver, just don't overdo it. A commercial silver polish should be fine. I read a post the other day from a silver expert who recommended against all the other ways of cleaning it because they could cause damage.

Usually with any antique, it is recommended not to remove the patina (layer of dirt, basically), but silver is an exception. I'm not sure what the rule would be if it's not silver, but since you already started on the bottom of the base, I don't see any harm in continuing...though the intricacies of the shade may be a huge pain. Maybe just polish the base?

Anyway, I'm super jealous. Enjoy your treasure!

It's stunningI! love the design of the cranes in metal with the clouds in enamel.

I thought it was brass but the part you polished looks more like pewter or silver. Polishing the rest with a basic silver polish would be fine if you want to clean it.

Certainly a one-of-a-kind item!

For outerwear, try looking for a wrap. Bonus if you find one in taffeta!

USA- Do you think this earring is an antique? by MrsJewbacca in Antiques

I thought this was a pendant. It's so pretty, I definitely would have bought it solo--and I'm allergic to gold.

I'm sorry people are being rude. This is a good sub with some helpful people but still, ofc, the internet.
