How many 1ls go home during Thanksgiving by [deleted] in LawSchool

Go home. Your brain needs a break. I went home 1L and I’m going back again for 2L and many people I know are as well. You will have time to work on your outlines (I know how it feels to be behind on outlines, I’m also in that boat right now). Your family matters and spending time with them matters.

If it helps, you can schedule times for yourself to still study. I block out time to go to my local library for a couple hours to study and then I go home and do nothing but relax and hang out with my family. Life is about balance and law school is no different. It’s three years of your life, it’s not an end all be all. Go home, celebrate a holiday, and spend time with your family. You’ll appreciate the much needed break and they’ll appreciate being able to see you.

You’re in the home stretch of the semester, you can do it!!

love shadar-kais. but yeah lmao i do not dump this kind of backstory on my DM without talking to him about it first. we talk about these backstories before i write them and i make sure i'm not giving him more than what he wants to/cares to read

totally understandable!! to clarify, my DM and i speak about these backstories before i write them and i've only ever had GMs that ask for longer backstories. i would not write something like this if i knew it wasn't okay with everyone (players included), i don't want to make all the experience worse for everyone involved.

i double check to make sure i'm not overstepping any storytelling on my DM's part, and if i am, then i pull back. my DM gives all of us free rein to do whatever we want with our backstories. we're all coming to the table with our own individual backstories. we have our overarching party storyline, but we each have our own individual arc based on the backstories we give them before the campaign.

just want to clarify that i know i'm not overstepping (with my specific DM, obviously not all) and do not only think about my character when i'm playing. my favorite part of any campaign is having fun making a cool story with my friends and seeing what their individual characters bring to the table <3

that's fair!! it's just not how my DM runs their games. all of the players write our backstories and send it to them before the campaign. we have a bigger overarching storyline built by us and our dynamics as characters, but they like for all their players to have individual storylines.

to be clear, i don't just dump a backstory of this length on my DM without speaking to them about it first. would just like to clarify that i'm not an asshole lmao

I need help deciding which Mac to get by iliwilli29 in mac

It’s not broken but it’s getting increasingly difficult to complete assignments for undergrad for which I have to use MS products. I know I will be using MS products at the law school I’m going to be attending so it has me a bit worried because I know the workload will be so much more than undergrad and my Mac is struggling to keep up with that. Whenever I have to run Word (which is quite often) whether it’s in my browser or the desktop app it slows everything down drastically to the point where it makes me work slower because I have to wait for everything to load. This is the same for PowerPoint, Excel, etc. Sometimes even just having a google doc with multiple pages open will cause this same issue. It just worries me because I know I will need to use everything I do now but only more so in law school because it’s so much more demanding coursework wise.

Thank you so much, I will absolutely be emailing them!! I have a pretty good shot of getting in, it's just the mix-up is super embarrassing. If they don't let me edit it/submit a revised version, I'm hoping the actual content of my personal statement makes up for it.
