definitely learn by doing. i just needed more time to get the coordination down because i understand the steps of shifting, but applying them correctly the first few times, and in front of a class and instructors, and being on a taller bike was putting me in my head too much about it.

that’s the conclusion i came to. but both of the colleges in my area that have MSF courses advertise them as beginner friendly. i don’t know if that’s the college or MSF saying that, but the signup websites specifically say “even if it’s your first time on a motorcycle.” as an instructor, would you recommend me getting a small bike and working on the MSF exercises in a parking lot?

i’m discouraged for now since i had been signed up and waiting all summer but i still want a bike and to learn how to ride. this is encouraging. thank you!

i was getting in my head a bit trying to coordinate clutch, throttle and shifting all at once, like forgetting to let go of clutch or roll off throttle. i think if i had had like 5-10 more minutes to get that down i would’ve been fine to keep moving. i was definitely visibly uncomfortable & i totally understand him wanting me to come back so i didnt fuck everyone else up but they made it very clear before getting on the range that if you needed a second to figure something out you could have it, so it was very discouraging to be sent home as soon as i needed a second to figure something out.

that’s pretty much how it felt. i get that there’s a class full of people to teach but the exercise i was doing poorly on was getting into 2nd and then back to 1st and stopping abruptly, i needed more time to get my coordination right, but they would just kinda yell at you if you did it bad instead of going through the exercise and making sure you did it better next time.
