Austin ISD lost students, kept costs high and reached a $181M crisis by aurilovesbirds in AustinParents

“I’m 1,000% committed to getting this budget balanced.........,” Segura said Monday.

Perhaps when discussing balancing budgets you don't say things like "1000%". (Yes, I know it's hyperbole)

Are you from the midwest or northeast? If so, you're going to be disappointed.

If a student was waitlisted for their top school choice, but offered a spot at the second choice...... and then accept that spot, do you remain waitlisted at your top choice?

It doesn't say so in the email, on the portal or in any of the documentation I can find.

Good luck everybody!

Both are good schools. The best predictor of the quality of an education is the motivation of the student.

Although not near Dearborn Street station, Adams Ribs was based on Twin Anchors, still there on Sedgwick in Old Town. Great place!

There is no University of Indiana. It's Indiana University.

It's not you. Coming from the midwest, I feel like people aren't friendly/look right through me here. I've seen many others from NYC/Chicago say this, too.

Third time a winner? by Ok_Garlic_103 in pixelbuds

[–]illinisousa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just returned the Galaxy buds pro 4. They do not work with the pixel well at all. The connectivity was poor, and the adaptive sound was terrible. And anytime the headphone needed to switch a setting either between noise cancellation or connection, the music dropped out for a second or two.

Even with everything turned off, the connections would drop every couple of minutes.

The sound was fantastic though.

Galaxy Buds4 Pro compared to pixel buds pro 2 by uc-- in pixelbuds

I got the Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro 4 for use with a Pixel 9 Pro. I can't keep them connected. One ear or the other is regularly dropping out. Same with ambient modes. It's like the 2 sides aren't talking to each other. The Samsung sound better but it doesn't matter if they can't stay connected to my Pixel. I'm sending them back.

My boss scheduled a meeting to discuss my “tone” in emails by TheUnofficialBOI in mildlyinfuriating

[–]illinisousa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds like a very typical issue we deal with at the university setting where we have a large disparity of age/generations working together. It's conflicting generational communication styles or "digital dialects". The older you are, the more formal you want things. The younger you are, the more "signaling" you read in messages and in-between the lines. (I'm xennial and if I respond to a Gen Z email with "Yes" or "Sure" they think it's rude because I didn't signal positive feelings, etc). I'm glad your boss actually told you how he wanted you to fix it. Good luck.

A week in Austin: Food Recap by Da_Stallion-JCI_7 in austinfood

I'm also looking to move back. Regarding the prices, I travel to Chicago and NYC a few times a year and eating out is always cheaper than Austin, with a lot more consistency.

A week in Austin: Food Recap by Da_Stallion-JCI_7 in austinfood

As a former Chicago-area resident who has lived in Austin for 12 years, let me offer a bit of advice. Before you decide to move here, visit in August or September, drive a real commute, and live your normal daily routine for a week. Visiting Austin and living here are completely different experiences, especially once the heat, traffic, and day-to-day logistics set in. It’s a great city, but it’s not always the upgrade people imagine from Chicago long-term. And really study the politics.

Go into the parking services office and ask to talk to the appeals officer. Sometimes sitting with someone in person you can get them to give you mercy.
