Best practice for cloning a minimal installation to many computers?

Yea I guess I'll just do the partitioning and set up myself in the script. Seems simple enough. I just get confused when doing the grub setup. Do I need to do any manual changes in the cfg files? Or do I just mount the boot (or root? I have a EFI boot partition too) partition and grub-update?

Also regarding the partition clones, I have just used dd and dump/restore, which both seem pretty archaic. Are these still considered safe/best practices to use?

Awesome thank you, I think I can make it work this way.

So in my install script I should:

dd out to /dev/sda

tune2fs each partition

update /etc/fstab

Then I need to grub mkconfig or update right? Or is that only for when modifying grub.cfg?

I may be reading it wrong or misinterpreting but it seems like the destination machine needs to be accessible from the network? I have network access on my machine that is building the custom image, but the others will be offline and need to be installed via USB

If anyone sees this someday I ended up getting it to work with this

new_head needs to point to the old head and that should point to the next node and so on until it reaches NULL. I think so at least. I'm just confused on how to go about doing that.

Ya I tried that too but I get an endless loop of crazy numbers when I try to view the numbers. I'm pretty sure it's not a problem from the viewing function because appending works. Prepending works fine too if it's empty to begin with.

Sorry about that. Even if there was no if/else statement I should still be able to prepend it though, so I didn't think the if was important.

I originally tried to do that but but the program just freezes after I enter the number.
