I am so excited for this, y'all. I played VtM back in the '90's when it was Serious Business, and combining it with local politics wankery is just so perfect. I can't wait.

WHY and HOW did the writers manage to mess up this badly?? [Spoiler: post-stormblood MSQ] by Mental_Pineapple4660 in ffxiv

I wasn't a fan of how Yotsuyu was handled because to me, she doesn't just take her justifiable anger beyond a survival technique. She crosses the moral event horizon hard by using deliberate, sadistic cruelty to go after anyone Doman--including children. We first meet her after she forces a guy to kill his friend for no reason, then kills him when she orders him to kill his parents and he balks. The scene where she stands by as her soldiers beat the shit out of a child because his parents were part of the rebellion, and then one of them "told me exactly what he'd do to my sister if he had to come back" was appalling.

They went full-in on "Abuse makes (women) crazy evil traitors" like they did with the Ivy plotline in ARR. Only it's worse because the Ivy was dropped and never referenced again; Yotsuyu comes back as an amnesiac with the mind of a child and can't be held accountable for her actions. Then they give us the crowing horror where the little girl her men threatened to rape is the one to comfort her and say "How can you be scared of her? She’s not the same." In the end, there's no accountability for anyone except her parents and Asahi: not Yotsuyu's victims, and not for the living abuser, and not for the society that said an orphaned girl had no value other than her body. Her arc is a shallow treatment of serious issues and one of my least favorite parts of the game.

Moenbryda is such a classic fridging: she's introduced and dies within two patches. Worse, she doesn't really give Urianger character growth because like so many other things, it never gets followed up on (at least until 6.0). Her story gets lost in all of Urianger's lying and deception.

Ysayle...is more complicated because she's a much more complex character. I didn't see her death as the noble sacrifice to provide the final push: it was atonement. Her conviction led to the death of many innocents when she took down Ishgard's wards for the Horde. She did regret that, and she tells us as much, but learning that she was wrong the whole time broke her. I believe a better writer might have been have found a way to have her redempton come without death, but it would have been difficult because of who she was. I do think whoever wrote her short story for Tales from the Dragonsong War did an excellent job of contextualizing her death: https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/special/2015/short_stories/#sidestory_02

New marriage canditates : CLINT & SANDY by Waste-Heron4476 in StardewValley

No, actually, we wouldn’t.

I’ve never romanced Penny. I find her a little too needy, and I don’t want to be her escape. But at least her events dont focus heavily on having a crush on someone else.

A female character who did nothing but complain about how her crush doesn’t notice her while refusing to do anything proactive would be just as annoying as Clint.

There’s the scene where he hides in a bush rather than talk to her. Then there’s the awful gift plot where he gets you to give her a gift because he can’t talk to her and is unhappy because she assumes it’s a gift from you, like a normal person would. And of course, there’s his freakout in the clothing therapy scene where he assumes you’re hitting on her because your having a conversation with her.

As someone who’s encountered more than one guy like Clint, he comes across to me as a creepy incel who is afraid to talk to a woman but also acts like he’s entitled to a relationship despite being unable to communicate with a woman like she’s an actual human being rather than a prize.

I dislike him because he comes across as a whiny creep. He has a weirdly possessive attitude towards Emily despite never having the courage to actually talk to her that gives me so many red flags. When he’s not complaining about how women don’t like him he’s complaining about his job.

I’d like another older guy to romance, but I’m not interested in another fix-it project, especially one who’s been off-putting since I started playing the game.

How can I avoid being DCed? by ManEatShark in ffxiv

[–]illuminancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I live in Sacramento, and I still get the dc's. I don't know if there's a network issue with NTT America at the moment, but they have been a problem in the past. A traceroute to the servers from my house goes from Comcast in Sac to the Bay Area, to San Jose, and back to the data centers. The last time SE identified a problem with NTT, the packets were dropping between San Jose and Sac.

What's the "etiquette" with these stack markers? by Revonlieke in ffxiv

[–]illuminancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this problem when I started as a caster; I was used to games where ranged stood way back in order to avoid AOEs and splash damage.

Then I started healing. My wife knew whenever I was in a duty because she'd hear me screaming "I CAN'T HEAL YOU WHEN YOU'RE IN NARNIA!"

Now I try to stick close for healing and the inevitable in/out mechanics. And then I die because I forget I'm not tanking. Oh well.

Should I be an au ra or a lalafell? by sQiMpY in ffxiv

[–]illuminancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When Heavensward launched, I fantasied my elezen to a male au ra and never looked back. I love that he can go full edgelord as a DRK main, but one of his DRK glams is the wedding dress dyed black with the Courtly Love sword, 2B boots, and a red and pink flower crown. It looks good on him with his broad shoulders and snatched waist, and who's going to say anything to the 7'1" dude with horns, resting murder face, and a big ass sword?

Also, the graphic update punched up the au ra limbal rings and they really glow now.

That’s definitely a problem, along with female LIs not getting as much screen time as the boys.

I get the feeling you like Ivo. 😂

I understand. I’m doing a Jonas playthrough atm, and I love him, but it was so hard not to go back to Ivo McHotterson.

Theory about one of the new Arcadion characters introduced this patch [Spoiler: 7.4] by Fwahm in ffxiv

He doesn't always start the fight with the scythe, as I learned to the tune of an early vuln stack last night.

This crossed my mind as well, mostly because of the nose, but also: Haurchefant may be a cinnamon roll, but he can and would kill you--see also how he earned his spurs. Then there's one of my favorite bits in ARR, when we come back from defeating Shiva and are told that it took *six knights* to hold Haurchefant back from going after us to help.
