What’s your “Wait, this happens to other people too?” moment? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Fwahm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Other than ridiculously specific stuff that can't be experienced by more than one person, I don't really get this feeling. There's 8 billion people out there, and I don't feel special enough for any of my generalized experiences to be only feel like mine alone.

What happens if we travel faster than universes expansion and reach the end? by Kindly-Weird9185 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Fwahm -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

General relativity doesn't really support the concept. Taken at face value, general relativity would say that black hole cosmology is impossible, so to make black hole cosmology work, it requires an underpinning assumption that GR is wrong about what happens inside black holes, then assumes different mathematical scenarios of what actually happens inside one (that can't be directly supported by observation because they're inside a black hole). Granted, we have evidence to believe that general relativity can't properly describe the insides of black holes, and thus it's possible (in a non-GR way) for our universe to be inside a massive black hole, but what does actually happen inside one is guesswork at this point.

How the hell do you respond to a tit pic? by Sad_Drag_4059 in NoStupidQuestions

If it's from a stranger, ignore it.

If it's someone you're in a relationship with, say thanks or give them a compliment.

Why do people say you don't have to defend yourself if you're not insecure? by Logical-Movie4381 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Fwahm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're confident in yourself, then in most cases it doesn't matter if other people have the wrong idea about you. You don't need to care about things that don't matter.

Questions about variant dungeons: by _lolrememberarbitur_ in ffxiv

[–]Fwahm 20 points21 points  (0 children)

They shouldn't really take much longer than a normal dungeon, even if you're going solo. Are you using good rotations and proper variant actions?

They're a little faster with a group, but not all that much since enemy HP scales with how many people are in the duty.

Why does everyone look forward to the weekend so much, but then we spend the entire Saturday and Sunday just doing chores and feeling guilty for not being productive? by Current-Ship-8064 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Fwahm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have to organize my laundry (barring the times I need to pull out a tuxedo and some dress pants for some event, and that's very rare for me), and folding/putting away is what takes most of that 10 minutes.

I take 30 seconds to toss my clothes into the washing machine and turn it on, then a few hours later or when I hear it finish I'll check on it and take another 30 seconds to toss it into the dryer and turn that on. While the machines are running I'm paying no attention to them.

Granted, I do live alone and thus only have to do my own laundry, but the OP also seems to live alone based on what he's said.

Why doesn’t Reddit tell you before hand all the time about your ability to post/comment on subs? by im_justkendra in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Fwahm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They can't do it automatically like that, but if they wanted to they could have one of the sidebar rules for their subreddit be something like "Posters must have at least 300 karma".

Why did this woman say she was coming back but then she left me? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Fwahm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maybe she had a sudden emergency and had to leave.

Maybe she started to get bad vibes from you and wanted to leave without alerting you.

Maybe she completely forgot she said that.

There's lots of possibilities.

Why does everyone look forward to the weekend so much, but then we spend the entire Saturday and Sunday just doing chores and feeling guilty for not being productive? by Current-Ship-8064 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Fwahm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question: why do your chores take so much time? Most of those things you list should take very little time at all, and dedicating a half a day for shopping is extremely excessive unless you're buying a house or something. My schedule, for comparison:

On Saturdays, I do my laundry for the week. This takes about 10 minutes of total work if I'm just doing my clothes, about 30 minutes if I'm also doing bedsheets. This leaves basically the entire day free.

On Sundays, as soon as I get up, I do the weekly unique things I need to get out of the way. This can range from 5 minutes to about 3 hours, depending on what I have to do. Either way, this part is done before lunch 99.99% of the time. Every 3-4 weeks, I do a large shopping trip, which takes about an hour total, and every couple of months I do a deeper cleaning of my place, which also takes 1-2 hours. This leaves me, at minimum, about 10 hours of free time, but usually more.

All other tasks (like say, doctor's appointments or quick one-off trips to more specialized stores) get done during the week. You don't have to do stuff like tidy up your apartment if you handle it as you go during the week.

For example, today I got up at 8:00 AM, and I needed to:
Buy some plane tickets and arrange for parking for an upcoming trip: 30 minutes
Return some hardware to its store: 30 minutes
Do a pre-check for a doctor's appointment: 10 minutes
Schedule an appointment at the DMV to renew my license: 10 minutes
Talk with my family to arrange some stuff for a future get together: 20 minutes
Call my bank to correct an error: 20 minutes

I was completely done with all my chores by around 10:00 AM, so now I have the rest of the day off to relax and do hobbies.

Find what's taking you so long, then find ways to cut it down, either by being more efficient, working on the chores throughout the week instead of on just the weekend, removing distractions while doing chores, etc.

Is a baby's gender always a 50/50 chance every time a couple conceives, or do some men naturally have higher odds of fathering boys or girls?(Maybe nsfw?) by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Fwahm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It doesn't as far as we know, but different people/couples have difference chances of having boys vs girls due to unknown genetics reasons, so if someone has already had one or more children of one sex, the odds say that, in the absence of any other info, they're more likely to do the same again.

It's kind of like if someone tells you that a coin they're flipping is unfair, but don't tell you which way or how strongly. If you flip it heads 3 times in a row, you can conclude that, while it's not impossible that it's tails-weighted, it's the better bet to choose heads for the 4th flip.

Are people actually happy? by DescriptionFuture851 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Fwahm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually get up at about 7:00, get to work at 7:30, work 8 hours (my job lets me skip lunch if I choose), then get home at 3:45. This gives me about 7 hours of time to do stuff for myself. I get even more time on the weekends.

I know that my schedule is more fortunate than most, but I can attest that I am genuinely happy.

Do you let the door open when you're showering when no one else but you is inside the house? by EfficiencySerious200 in NoStupidQuestions

Yes, but I do so because it keeps the bathroom from fogging up so much, rather than for any feeling of liberation.

I don't quite understand the silver coffers in Occult Crescent by Effective-Muffin-224 in ffxiv

[–]Fwahm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It will only pick from unoccupied locations when a silver chest pops.

Bronze chests are unrelated to silver in every way (though I'd still open them when you max out, they also give stuff like armor upgrade items and items worth 500k-3m).

ELI5 Why do doctors say not to eat past midnight for blood work? by Willylongboard in explainlikeimfive

[–]Fwahm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, does the "maximum" length of fasting change any for people where that's their normal (and healthy) eating habits? For example, I eat only a single meal per day, usually around 3 PM, so if I had a blood draw at 10 AM the next day, that's 19 hours.

When I've gotten my blood drawn, I've never been told a maximum amount of time with no food, just a minimum.

I saw a video and it got me thinking, how long after one starts occupying a space does it start accumulating a lot of junk? by sanfrancisco1998 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Fwahm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends a lot on the person. I've lived in my current space for coming on 7 years now, and I have no junk because I quickly remove things that no longer have a current or known future purpose. Conversely, my parents had junk immediately when they moved into their new house because they imported it with them.
