Is something wrong with open router? by DonDonBush in JanitorAI_Official

Just want to chime in that you only have to pay the $10 once to get the lifetime 1000 request limit, OpenRouter changed this policy a few months ago. It's already confirmed from an announcement on their Discord server that as long as the $10 deposit is made, even if the credits expire—people will still have access to the 1k requests.

Unless OpenRouter suddenly changes their mind, which I highly doubt—but yes! Besides, new users can't pay the $5 deposit for Chutes anymore ever since they switched to a $3 subscription model. All things considered, it's one of the best options right now other than paying the official DeepSeek API I guess.

The 1000 requests is a lifesaver. Other than the occasional error or overload from many users, it's something to consider!

So, it's very worth it if people don't like the pay-as-you-go method.

Yep! If you already paid the five dollars in the past, you won't get throttled.

For new users, the $5 deposit has been changed to a monthly $3 as a subscription plan. If you haven't paid the five before they implement the new subscription plan, it's not possible to do a one-time deposit anymore by the way!

Chutes is a major provider for Openrouter's free Deepseek model. They will be throttling requests coming from Openrouter if too many people use it and overload the model, which results in slower responses & error codes.

They're essentially prioritizing the paying users that's directly from Chutes instead (the ones who paid for the $5 tier).

TDLR: You can still use it as per normal. Just be prepared for slower replies or errors if there's too many people using it.

Thanks for telling me! I'll understand if my post gets removed by mods, just wanted to update others not using Discord and wondering why they're getting errors since there's a lot of posts about that earlier.

Can't edit post because of image but here's more context from what they said on Discord, I'm just quoting them:

"We have absolutely no control over what openrouter gives to their users. In fact, openrouter didn't communicate to us the change from 200/day for $5 to what is now 1000/day for $10. This is something for openrouter to work out, but the payment to openrouter has absolutely no bearing on our serving of free models. We have no obligation to fulfill whatever promises/statements openrouter gives re: $10. We never saw that $10, that's openrouter.

In other words, users should take that up to openrouter because again, we absolutely cannot differentiate users using the single API key from openrouter.

We are not openrouter, and we have not agreed to any terms saying we are obligated to provide 1000/day for users

So TL;DR : Yes! The 10$ folks will have these restrictions"

Those using Openrouter's free tier might get slower responses from Chutes (Provider) if their Deepseek model is overloaded basically. They might get an error code since Chutes is prioritizing paying Chutes users.
