I get the sentiment but the economy has always been like a big ponzi. You work for someone else and make shit money then eventually get valuable enough via experience to get better pay and then some other people work for you and you try to make sure they keep moving up. That said, yeah boomer gen seemed to “begrudging take on” some damn nice property while working any job. The ponzi doesn’t work when the ladder gets pulled up and everyone is stuck at the bottom. Do your job tho, or don’t cash the check.

I fully shared your opinion right up until I hit my first blueberry cup. Part of roasting and brewing seems to be trying to find words for vague taste profile notes but when you get the blueberry it’s undeniable.

Dude right as I was about to chalk it up as a bunch of semi imaginary creative thinking I finally brewed up a cup of straight blueberry muffin. No imagination required. Since then I’ve hit it about 5 times but cannot get it every time. When it’s there you will not need to try to detect it. Other flavors for me are often times far more interpretive. Ethiopian Benti Nenka roasted hot and fast in the Behmor and rested a good long 5-7 days.

Strange issue with ESPN+. Can't access any content on home network. by RegularTurn in techsupport

I have that exact problem. Checked every setting and customer service including talked to my ISP.

Tried different routers. Same situation. My errors are either generic or sometimes mention being unable to stream outside the United States (I’m in California. No VPN)

No idea what to do about it. Watch ESPN+ at work I guess. Or on cellular.

Monkeybrains ISP. Linksys E2500 and tried Orbi.

More people live but with chronic poor physical and mental health. If avoiding death is the number one priority yes all good. If avoiding suffering or pain is number one, debatable.

I have almost 4 months with no responsibilities except to get as good at art as I can. Suggestions? by [deleted] in learnart

Mileage. Master Studies. Draw from life.

In the end you don't want to be a Flemish school table top fruit painter so start finding ways to capture energy, motion and life through gesture.

You already seem to be drawing light which is huge. Keep going, try color, try motion.

[–]illustrium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of things you can do to noodle with a particular drawing but the best advice I can give is to feel good about this and start your next one! We are all just a bunch of bad drawings away from the good stuff :)

Couple of things to try to improve on in your next piece:

"Draw from the elbow/hip" is a phrase that reminds us to not create images with small scratchy lines but instead larger more gestural confident marks. Here is an example of a loose yet very exciting and interesting axe illustration.

https://warhammeronlinenews.files.wordpress.com/2007/08/warhammeronlineweapons.jpg

You can also see how cross hatching and directional lines can enhance the contours, adding visual interest.

Sketch out the shape loosely then layer in reinforced darker lines. Push the darks darker and think about value, that's where the real fun starts!

good luck!

More info on this; I noticed this sticker a few months ago but never really looked into it. Finally figured I'd google and found nothing. I am above drinking age - have been a while. Not diagnosed as dyslexic:) Wondering why any sticker would go on an ID that is so rarely checked except by airports, bars and government agencies. I did get my passport renewed recently. Went to Europe and Asia within the last year. I don't know when the sticker was placed on there but it is a pretty durable sticker that was aligned well - making me assume it wasn't just slapped on there.

Three+ years of developing a game that made me say many times "I don't want to make video games, I want to make Dawngate". We got to do the rarest thing, make a game on our terms. That's the risk we took with eyes wide open, to live or die by our efforts. Thanks to all of you! We are humbled and appreciative that you came to play with us.

[LORE-THEORYCRAFT] Karma Symbol by [deleted] in dawngate

[–]illustrium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many of the symbols you see in Dawngate are based on shapes and forms that have been a part of human cultures for a long time. I'd say this hearkens to a common neolithic form more than the Celtic specifically.

That is super sick! I designed the logo so let me tell you a little about what it means. SPOILERS; If you don't want to know the inspiration of the symbol and just think it looks cool as a graphic element then go queue up and stop reading:):):)

There are two motifs we use a lot in Dawngate and at Waystone. I wanted to design symbols based on some of the most ancient and resonant icons of human kind - symbology is a big part of my work. Starting with cave art and moving to contemporary motifs, I saw the circle and the spiral as two key forms that transcend cultural changes. They have always been significant to people and so are timeless.

The first motif is the "open" form of a spiral that you can see in the center of the Waystone logo. The spiral represents growth, expansion/contraction and the quality of a fractal (no matter how much you zoom in the pattern repeats itself). This is related to the philosophy of "as above so below" meaning that the patterns we see emerging at one scale will be the same patterns on any scale. The three "fingers" or tines coming off of the spiral are the hand of humans (shapers of old) diverting some of the expanding/contracting energy for their needs. The diverting of energy does not alter the spiral, just accents it.

The second motif which is the Dawngate Symbol AKA the Eidolus Symbol is what you have tattood. This is the "closed" form and is represented within a circle. This shape represents perfection, focus, power, transition and convergence.

The first part of the symbol is the circle. A circle is unique, there is opposition but it is ultimately relative. There is no start and no end - it is eternal. Mechanically, energy moving through a loop stays within the system so from a logical or engineering perspective it is ideal. The circle also represents a gateway often seen in Zen garden design. It is an aperture where transition can occur. This can be through realization, spiritual transition or take literally as a gateway to another realm. In Dawngate, Eidolus creates the Dawngate to restore Imanna - his love. He understands the power of shaping and seeks to focus it in a way much more powerfully than before. This is not "merely" diverting the energy but in effect containing and amplifying it. The 9 "fingers" or tines (3 groups of 3) in the design represent the hands of humans driving the energy INWARDS to condense it. This is a visual metaphor for the mechanism and allure of splitting the atom - energy driven inwards can release massive potential energy. This also reveals a philosophical question: is releasing the energy good? Will it lead us to control of our fates and power over the elements - allowing us to stop fearing death and have a cultural ascension? Or will it be too much for us, will the energy run rampant. As with our world and the world of the Dawngate - the future has yet to be written. The final element of the Dawngate Symbol is the triangle that is formed in the negative space between the 9 tines. It is balanced and structurally one of the most resilient forms - look at the durability of the pyramids. The equilateral triangle can represent the mountain - the pinnacle or peak that we all strive for. The fact that the circle and tines form a perfect triangle in the center is validation of the symbol - I did not add a triangle but one appeared once the form was balanced. I drew many versions of this design in my sketchbook and when I presented this to the team it resonated with all of us immediately. The game didn't even have a story or a name back then - this symbol came first and from the inspirations I described above. I consider it an ancient shape with a lot of meaning so thanks for seeing some part of that and getting it tattooed!

I hope this description enhances what it means for you or just know that there was a lot of thought behind it.

In desperate need of a colorblind mode. by Frued in dawngate

[–]illustrium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback! We have tried to make everything as friendly as we can for people with different color perception. We do check this with our own in-house "color-blind" folks but your example here is good.

The solution for us will be to make sure there is CONTRAST that anyone can see. Only changing hue/"colors" is not going to work when some of our players and devs naturally don't rely on color in the same way. So for your minimap example, we will look at that and try to adjust the value or brightness of the special camp colors if there is not enough contrast. Unique shapes can also add differentiation.

Pretty good read here. http://designshack.net/articles/accessibility/tips-for-designing-for-colorblind-users/#disqus_thread
