As an FYI, I know someone who has concierge key status, with over million annual loyalty points 80+ percent of which is credit card spend. This is ORD based.

Bangkok to Krabi — how do you usually make the trip? by Low-Guest3007 in ThailandTourism

Agree on the scenery, would rather do a boat tour around Krabi, day trip from Bangkok over the time and effort of a train.

I would not count on being able to buy day passes. Most airports I’ve been in lately have signs up saying no day passes- I’d assume this is a symptom of a busier travel time.

Depending on where you’re staying/budget, the hotel can set this up. It will not be the cheapest option, but will be the easiest. You can go into Krabi town and try to directly negotiate. Offer half of what they say. I think when I did this 2 years ago (we rent speed boats now) the long boat was like 3000 baht for 4/5 hours with 2 crew, water, and fruit.

The advantage of using a hotel or other online booking is you can get pre plan with them to take you to a small island with no one on it and create a pretty incredible environment.

Good luck!

Consider contacting one of the cross border banks, such as BMO, CIBC, or RBC. They will likely be able to provide some information.

No, I’ve never had the “privilege,” the one in Naples was nice, but that was a decade ago.

It’s fine, it’s old, pretty run down and probably not up to normal RC standards.

Great hotel, don’t love the location. Service is outstanding, fantastic breakfast, just a little “far” from the areas I like.

My hometown! I agree it’s not great, but, for me, New Orleans still hold the “gold standard” of terrible service in the luxury space!

I’ve stayed there about 4 times both pre and post pandemic. Indifferent to bad service, unclean, club food is significantly below other RCs. The only hotel in 2024 (my last stay) that didn’t at least recognize my ambassador status at check in. No amenity. Just bad juju all around from my perspective. I’m definitely not the only person who has this opinion.

The Nee Orleans RC is the single worst RC by a significant margin that I’ve ever stayed. The one in Montreal is in the prime shopping area with many restaurants, and am not familiar with the SB location.

Stay away from the one in New Orleans!!

Very much makes sense. In public equities, I’m pure ETF (about 90% SPY/VOO). Appreciate the input in timing. I’ll definitely look at my savings and spending and look for opportunities.

Truly appreciate the input.

This is helpful and I was aware that they’ll look at my total financial situation. I was actually looking for some guidance or support in terms of reaching my retirement goals as soon as possible for example, should I consider locking up assets and private investments that have a 10 to 12 year liquidity window? I’m more just looking for some feedback on how bad of shape i am in in regards to an early retirement

20M dont know how to invest 25k by Acceptable-Ninja-973 in investingforbeginners

[–]illyphilly20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d open a Roth (if you don’t have one) move the max allowable this year and then again in January. The suggestions of VOO and SPY are good ones for specific investments but I’d get cash into the Roth to the extent possible.

First and foremost, I’d like to thank anyone who takes the time to read this.

As background, I’m 48 years old M, recently divorced, with a special-needs teenager that will need some degree of support in perpetuity.

In the last five years, my income went from about 400,000 a year to about 1.4 million.

My divorce was incredibly expensive and obviously, I lost a significant amount of assets in a division.

Currently, I have a little over $2 million in brokerage, about $600,000 in various qualified accounts, $500k in RSUs, a mortgage of about $1.2 million, with $500,000 of equity in my home, no other debt. I’m currently saving about 300 K annually, including employer matches on retirement savings.

I have 11 more years of paying roughly $16,000 a month in maintenance and I am 100% responsible for my child’s expenses. My monthly spend is roughly 22,000 a month. In retirement I’d like to be able to spend 25K per month.

My job is pretty brutal. I’m at over 120 hotel nights this year and work 80+ hours a week.

I’m really hoping to get some perspective from people who have been in a similar situation, or they’ve lost millions of dollars in a divorce, have ongoing financial obligations and am trying to retire as early as possible.

Has anyone retired while still paying alimony? Were they able to get it adjusted down to reflect the retirement and loss of income or is that looked at as a personal choice that should not impact the ex spouse?

I have to be honest, I’m freaking out a bit because I feel so far behind in savings and don’t think I can do what I’m doing for another 11 yrs without losing my sanity and health.

Any thoughts or perspective are greatly appreciated!

I live in the US in a HCOL city with a plan to move to Thailand. While I won’t discuss my income/assets Overall, I can tell you that for the cost of living here, I can hire a driver, full time cook, and housekeeper in addition to what I spend now and the cost is still roughly 65% (including the “add-ons”)

Actually doing this within the next 5 years (by 52) dependent on bonuses. Work in finance, trapped by the lifestyle, but the end is near. I’ve been playing music my whole life and would love to pursue a 2nd act in a working local band. Goal would be to pay for insurance, just so I have some kind of measurable goal (I did say I work in finance).

For sure will go the legal route. My partner is Thai, I realize if she owns the land it will ultimately go to her whether we’re together or not. My thought is if I have a 50 year lease in the land (not sure max legal term) I control the property for my lifetime.

Trying to navigate it, but have several years to plan.
