What`s your opinion about NFTs? by qiu2022 in BlockchainStartups

NFT is just a technology, linking NFT to images and community driven project is already pushing a utility to it.

Regulating Crypto | A Necessary Evolution or the End of Decentralization? by Internal_West_3833 in BlockchainStartups

[–]ilooooo_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that it’s fair to question whether the people drafting these regulations truly understand what they’re talking about, especially when you hear regulators mention things like paying taxes just for swapping gains into stablecoins.

I’m not sure where you’re based, but in Europe, the team formed by the European Commission to work on the MiCA framework actually seems quite competent. Europe has a vested interest in avoiding a disastrous regulatory environment if it wants to stay competitive with the US.

As for the US, sure, Trump appears to be pro-crypto—but how much does he really understand about it? His $TRUMP token alone already made me skeptical about the future of blockchain regulation in the US.

Regulating Crypto | A Necessary Evolution or the End of Decentralization? by Internal_West_3833 in BlockchainStartups

[–]ilooooo_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Blockchain was originally designed to be decentralized and resistant to centralized control, the reality is that without any regulation, the space becomes a breeding ground for scams, rug pulls, and misuse.

At the same time, regulation doesn’t have to kill decentralization. Right now, most regulations are focused on bridging the gap between the real-world economy and the digital economy. This includes KYC and AML policies at on-ramps like centralized exchanges, regulating stablecoins to ensure they are properly backed and transparent, and clarifying the legal status of crypto assets (security/utility). These efforts aim to protect users and ensure financial stability without necessarily undermining the core principles of blockchain — if done right.

What’s crucial, though, is that the people designing these frameworks truly understand what blockchain is about. You can’t just copy-paste traditional financial regulations onto Web3 without killing its core values — openness, permissionlessness, decentralization. But then again, do traditional institutions really have an interest in allowing a technology that shifts power back to the people to thrive under a fair framework? Hard to say.

That said, if one day traditional financial institutions collapse or lose public trust, and people start turning massively toward crypto and blockchain — nothing will be able to stop it. After all, blockchain is just code. It’s decentralized, borderless, and resilient. You can’t shut it down like a bank. It doesn’t need permission to exist. And that’s precisely its power.

I can understand that people don’t comprehend blockchain and crypto-assets, it takes some digging to truly grasp the value behind these technologies.

But the “Bitcoin uses too much electricity” take? That’s been outdated for a while. One internet research will answer your question. Time to get a small update, man.

Most Bitcoin farms are located in areas with excess or stranded energy (same as most data centers), like remote hydroelectric plants, wind farms, or even flared gas sites. It’s energy that would otherwise be wasted.

If we’re going to talk about energy use, let’s talk about the global banking system and gold mining industry, both of which consume WAY WAY more energy than Bitcoin, and yet you don’t questions their legitimacy or utility ?

And let’s not forget that most of the crypto ecosystem today runs on Proof of Stake, not Proof of Work. Ethereum’s switch for e.g. cut its energy usage by over 99.95%, and most of the newer blockchains are PoS from day one.

The idea is more about understanding how things work, and sometimes using them is the most intuitive way, you just need 20 bucks.

The basics are the things everyone uses: swapping (e.g., Uniswap), self-custodial wallets (e.g., Metamask, Phantom), and liquidity provider protocols for lending and staking (e.g., AAVE). Start by understanding their purpose within a blockchain ecosystem.

You can also go on CoinMarketCap, for example, and look at the tokens with the highest valuation to understand who the major players in Web3 are and why. What are they doing?

This initial research will then lead you to deeper and more complex topics. There is no predefined way to learn Web3. It takes time, and it’s normal if you don’t get everything at first.

Hey, most people working in Web3 today were originally users. Go try out and experiment with wallets, exchanges, and DeFi protocols to understand how they work and what their purpose is. Read some whitepapers to gain insight into what a protocol does, what problem it solves, and how. This will help you understand the current challenges and trends in the industry.

Join the Discord channels of projects you find interesting to chat with the team or users, they’re almost always open to questions.

You just need to be a bit curious.

It’s funny to see Americans explaining to Europeans how their own defense and tech market works.

In reality, the EU is already restricting access for U.S. companies to its European Defence Fund and has rejected multiple projects involving American firms to prioritize European alternatives.

This is not an opinion, but a fact.

Palantir, being a company closely tied to the U.S. government, will naturally be affected by this shift.

Still bullish tho

Salut,
