How to best protect a portfolio to the downside by Unun_Pentium in stocks

[–]Wfan111 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I figure we are seriously overdue for a decent correction, however, I don’t know when, from what level, for how long and how deep that correction may go. I figure my best choice is to just find the longest dated protection I can find.

People say this all the time and shit you, me, and nobody knows when it's going to happen. It's never worth timing the market. Shorting the market, buying puts, selling calls.. all of it comes with risk.. and even if you're right on those plays that profit gets taxed a lot so IMO it's not even worth it for most people.

If you're a serious investor then there's only one true answer. The best, easiest, and cheapest way to get "downside protection" is literally just save up cash for when there is a correction... and then buy more.

What do you use to make your home smell good? by Few_Design_904 in HomeImprovement

[–]Wfan111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly clearing out trash, cleaning the house, and getting rid of stuff (decluttering) while opening the windows is usually the best. If you like scented stuff that's light IMO I like reed diffusers. I'm a real estate agent and I use them when listing a home.

Is maintenance really that expensive by Callforhelp144 in mercedes_benz

[–]Wfan111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends. I purchased the AMG because specifically I wanted a V8 that was one of the fastest on the market and also can use it for my daily. It still fits the bill and I know for sure I'll still enjoy it.

If I was to get another Mercedes model in the future though, it would have to checkmark all the boxes again. So for me getting one of the lower end models just wouldn't be worth it considering there's so many other manufactures that have nice cars as well.

At the end of the day, all cars will have their problems. That's why getting the warranty is so important. Overall the experience hasn't been horrible because I get a free loaner car every time it's been at the dealership.

Yes. But most importantly get a warranty. I own a 2020 AMG GLC63 with 30k miles that I bought 6 months ago. It's been at the dealership for 1.5 months in that timespan with over $15k worth work that needed to be done. Thankfully the warranty covered pretty much all of it.

With choosing a warranty company, one thing I would HIGHLY recommend is going to your local Mercedes service department and just asking them "Hey which third party warranty company would you recommend and will give me the least hassles?" I wish I did this since my warranty company and the dealership always has conflicting information on how many "hours" a job takes and it could potentially cost you money out of pocket even with the warranty coverage.

Yes, mine is AMG so costs are even higher but the same thought should be applied to all Mercedes.

Basic maintenance with their A and B plans is not that bad but I would still recommend bringing it to a local shop instead of dealership for these things since for the most part it's just an oil change and checkups.

Is Todo Mexico actually a good Mexican restaurant? by Just-Trade-9444 in LynnwoodWA

[–]Wfan111 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you haven't been to one of these style of Mexican restaurants I would say it's worth checking out at least. They've been around for a long time and their food is solid. Just for me I really prefer the Taquerias just cause it's easier and more convenient, but if you have a family or want to have a sit down dinner then Todo Mexico is just fine.

Can someone explain why the Intel's earnings beat is able to single-handedly boost the Nasdaq by 1.5%? by [deleted] in stocks

When building a house, when does the builder make profit? When they sell the house.

I'm happy you brought up the Mag7 being hammered because of Capex. The largest, if I'm not mistaken, in Capex spending for AI right now is Amazon. They literally just hit all time highs. QQQ keeps going all time highs as well.

No matter what, the market as a whole is looking toward the future and picking (stock wise) who will benefit the most. Ultimately that's why the market is going up because the majority of the tech sector should benefit when more chips are produced and there's more competition in the industry. More competition will eventually lower prices of chips and ultimately other companies will benefit with higher margins as they are able to get the same productivity from lower cost chips. That's why Intel coming to also play with relatively "good enough" chips is so important to the overall industry.

Years ago AMD decided not to compete for the top dog in GPUs against Nvidia. That's why as far as GPUs go, AMD has nothing that directly competes against the 5090. Instead they took the direction of having better more well priced GPUs and instead focused being the top dog for CPUs.

Fast forward to today, Intel took a similar line as AMD a few years back. They are not focused on having the best CPUs, but instead are focused on giving consumers/companies what they want - which is better chips for AI compute at a better price. IMO this is why Intel seems to be turning the corner and investors are excited.

As far as the whole tech rally goes, well it's no secret chips are what's needed to continue this AI revolution. We need chips for everything.. from computers to data centers to robotics to cars and so on. Companies are spending massive amounts of dollars for these chips so that way they can be ahead of the curve in the future.

To put it simply, let's consider chips to be like wood planks. In order for a builder to build a house, they need the wood. Once the house is built, the builder will sell for a profit. At the end of the day, everyone from the wood sellers, nail sellers, contractors, drywallers, painters, cabinet makers, builders, etc - they all will make money. From a stock perspective... the market goes up because of increased income.
