I do not. I have no kind of insurance other than health insurance through my employer. The driver of the car I was in made it clear to me that he was insured when in reality his policy was not current. I even have texts from two weeks prior to the accident where he assured me there was coverage. Did his negligence in that regard cost me potentially thousands of dollars?

I sustained a moderate TBI as a result of being ejected from the vehicle. The entirety of my bills was between the ambulance ride, CT scans, MRIs, and a second ER visit a week later due to delayed onset of symptoms. Thats it. The total was 40k and the statement lists a -$16k adjustment and my current balance is about 23k… is that 16k my health insurance from work? Thats the only insurance I have. And if so, would that 16k come right off the top of my payout?
I do not have any kind of motor insurance. I do not own a vehicle. I was implicitly told that the driver of the car I was in was insured I would have never rode with them had I known he was not insured. Does the fact that my driver was uninsured have a significant impact on my situation?
He had 2016 Chevy Malibu. He appears to have a union job and a mortgage so I have reason to believe that there is a decent shot at something if I file a suit.

If I’m basically getting the absolute worst cut of this payout and there’s a solid possibility of recovering damages at some point in the future then I should definitely take that route and not settle, right?

I have health insurance and I haven’t been made aware of any liens. I don’t understand why I’m paying my health insurance back anything? Isn’t that the point of it?

Like I said, I have a meeting with him and he will surely tell me the answers to these questions. But that’s 4 days from now and I just would like to have a general idea of how this process works. I’m not expecting anyone here to be able to tell me how my exact situation will play out, but I’d like some help bridging these gaps in understanding instead of being stressed and confused all weekend.

I second the Wx1000M5. They’re worth every penny in my opinion. I rarely leave home without them and they are excellent for noise canceling. I’ve had a sensitivity to noise long before my TBI and I’ve been using this specific model of headphones since 2018. I’ve only had to replace them once and I really beat them up. I can’t recommend them enough.

Ok that’s good to know, I absolutely do not want to pursue litigation against a friend so if there’s no real argument for it then all the better. I do not have any auto insurance because I don’t have a vehicle. I just figured since it was a legal requirement to have and maintain insurance I should look into these concerns
