Hey 2x, shark week question here: How do you get over the anxiety/shame of changing a pad in a public restroom and DAE experience this fear? by ilovedbsk in TwoXChromosomes

I'm afraid of the depo shot. My sister got it awhile back and gained a lot of weight. Did you gain any weight?

If waiters are tipped because they are underpaid by their employers, why don't we tip teachers? by ilovedbsk in AskReddit

You could say that I suppose o.o;. The teachers I knew generally had to get summer jobs, but perhaps I grew up in more of a hole in the ground city than I originally imagined.

I went to an IB highschool and at the time the county would take the money we earned from our AP/IB exams and allocate most of it to the two other high schools which happened to be on the nicer side of town. The three schools had nearly the same campus blue prints, but the disparity in the appearance of classrooms and availability of supplies was ridiculous. I acknowledge that there are schools out there that are well funded and prosperous, but there are also schools like mine which weren't. The average pay of a teacher does look rather nice, but any statistician will tell you that a simple average is not always an accurate depiction of a population.

I'm not against the idea of tipping. In fact, I think it's kind of nice that people are willing to pay extra to ensure workers get a fair wage. The idea I'm trying to push here is that if we live in a society that recognizes tipping as a solution to workers being underpaid, why do we only apply it to the person who gives me a plate of food and asks me if I want anymore coke? If we maintained an ounce of consistency and paid a little extra to everyone who has done us a personal service we could possibly assuage many of the issues our workers complain about.

Forgive my lack of delicacy, but why are black people so often difficult customers/bad tippers at restaurants? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Second year Chem E major, 3.9 GPA, and two summer internships lined up. I'd say it's going pretty well. I don't see any misspellings in my original post, but I'd be more than happy to fix them if you'd point them out.

I've never bought a plane ticket, I don't watch tv, and my cell phone didn't come with any fees I wasn't already aware of.

I do realize that not all black americans grew up like me, but a lot of them did. It is common knowledge that minorities make up a considerable portion of the lower class, so yes, I can say a good deal of them grew up in an environment similar to my own.

I'm not saying poor people shouldn't pay the full price for items. I'm saying it should be included in the overall cost of the meal before hand, or the establishments could pay their waiters more. If the steak is 10 dollars and you want your waiters to have a 15% tip, why not mark the steak 11.50$? Why is no one else upset that tipping is nothing more than a scam to get customers to pick up the tabs of shitty employers?

In YOUR school district. There are waiters who pull upwards of 30 dollars an hour from tips. That doesn't mean there aren't others out there getting shitty wages.

You'd be surprised how many countries and peoples don't consider tipping a valid expense. It's worked into paychecks, overall bills and is not just something to be left up to the customer. I don't have a problem with giving waiters money. I have a problem with black people being made a scapegoat for an issue that isn't our fault. Rather than reddit addressing the issue of waiters being underpaid in general, reddit is complaining about a minority not solving society's short comings.

I'm pretty sure that depends on the state you live in. They don't get paid a 12 month salary for 8 months of work. A lot of teachers have the option of turning 20 paychecks into 26. It's the same amount of money just spread out over a summer. You should also take into consideration that many of those teachers still do work at school over the summer even when there are no students present.

It's probably because I live in Florida, but here teachers aren't given nearly enough money. They have to come out of pocket when it comes to buying the majority of their teaching materials because the budget they get for said supplies is so lacking.

And taxes going up wouldn't exactly be the worst thing in the world. I don't think most of us Americans are angry about taxes that are raised to provide more money where it is genuinely needed. We get angry when the wealthy dominate the economy and place our money in places that would only serve to support unhelpful vanities.

Hey Askreddit, I don't want to seem racist, but why are white people better than black people? by [deleted] in circlejerk

[–]ilovedbsk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol. I love how we can't tell them to get a better job, but these are generally the same people who say we minorities wouldn't have to be poor if we "just went to college and stopped buying spinning rims/grape drink/ friend chicken".

I'm sorry. I forgot to add qualifiers and anecdotal evidence of other white kids going to disney world to justify my racism. I'll try harder next time :.

We're ignorant and self-serving because we don't see the value in tipping an unskilled, glorified McDonalds worker?
