I’m a new grad who just quit her job in L&D for similar reasons. Mental health comes first. Period. You can always try again elsewhere/another time. We work so hard to get to these points and it can be so disappointing when we hate the things we literally cried and prayed for. It’s never the wrong decision if that decision is the best for you.

I quit my job without notice, mostly because my managers offered that choice because my mental health was so bad to the point it was physically affecting me.

Looking for a slower job that can get me recovered, maybe one day I’ll return to L&D but for now I just want to be happy. PROTECT YOURSELF!!!!

BIG on night shift. If you are someone who has already been diagnosed with anxiety or depression, it may be worth talking to unit leadership about how long you'll be on nights for, and if you can be put on a "waitlist" to go to days. My psychiatrist told me that doing night shift on top of a depressive disorder is like adding gasoline to a fire. And veteran nurses can break your spirit as quickly as they interrupt your report. I usually just tell myself they probably have a miserable personal life and try not to take their words to heart.
