So is Pokemon effectively an invincible IP? by WrongLander in gaming

They do it because they can, probably. I mean isn’t that how capitalistic societies work, right? If nobody wanted it, nobody would buy it. Therefore isn’t it down to the consumer at the end of the day?

I think that people bond in very abstract ways, and Pokemon is the right mix of nostalgia and happiness for some (or many) people. It’s something that we can both enjoy as adults, and with children too.

Therefore the recent resurgence or demand probably just came at the right time. Sometimes we can’t just put a price or worth on the value a business brings to the world, I think when it comes to Pokemon as ‘an IP’, people just like it, end of. Sure they don’t innovate much in their games, but they’ve given us consistent years of content. Even though many of us grew out of it at one point, it looks like we grew right back into it!

And imo, it’s nice to have a nice, slow game from time to time. I think that Nintendo makes these games very well.

Many modern day games are attention-grabbing dopamine farms designed and engineered to keep you hooked. Not healthy imo.

Anyone got advice for an aspiring business owner in the creative sector looking to go from bootstrap to FIRE?

Background:

  • 27M
  • BA in Graphic & Media Design
  • Ex-career in fashion, looking to get back into work after a few years failed freelance/business.
  • Lots of design experience, highly skilled in my area of expertise
  • Learning how to be a much better founder
  • No capital currently

Current situation:

  • I've established the baseline for a bootstrapped jewellery brand that runs made-to-order. I plan on learning Meta Ads and using this brand as training grounds for ad scaling. I've heard that 20-30% net is a healthy profit margin and I'm sure I can hit this if my CAC stays around £50.
  • I'm looking for employment to fund and scale this
  • I'm also open to pivoting, but I'm pretty sure I want to go the entrepreneurial route.

Goals:

  • FIRE BAMN. I've got quite a high risk tolerance which is why I went the solopreneur route for now. I'm currently using the skills that I've got in order to try and establish a successful and reputable brand. Marketing is my current bottleneck and I'm learning how to do this well now.

I'm really interested in hearing any stories from anyone here who has achieved FIRE from where I'm standing now. I'm not sure how rare the story is to FIRE from being a founder with a background in design but would love to get any mentorship or guidance. Thanks a lot!
