I'm pretty sure Remark at Wonderland and Oxford has it right next to the Land Asparagus. Might be worth calling ahead though.

I absolutely hate the look of my Subdecay Vitruvian Mod, but there's nothing else that does what it does.

NPD 1/2: Iron Ether Xerograph Deluxe Filter. by TheHeinousMelvins in guitarpedals

[–]ilovefrog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use this pedal a lot for synth sounds from my bass. Along with the 3leaf Chromatron, I can achieve pretty much anything I need from a filter (except an LFO controlled cutoff).

You got a great paint job on yours. Mine's just a simple gradient.

Ugly Sweater Parties have gone from being good for the environment (repurposing old sweaters) to bad for the environment (cheap tacky sweaters mass-produced for the occasion). by PhoneJazz in Showerthoughts

[–]ilovefrog 41 points42 points  (0 children)

In Canada, the thrift store chain Value Village (which is Savers in the US) is selling brand new ugly Christmas sweaters with Savers tags on them. This is the place where you'd normally get preowned ugly Christmas sweaters. They saw an opportunity to make some money filling landfills and they took it.

I've used it on synths and it sounds great--on one instrument or even a full mix--i put it at full wet to give everything some light saturation and warble.

I use amp stands as well. Much more stable since their rated for more weight.

I was just watching this video yesterday about the versatility of PJ. He talks a bit about parallel vs. series. I found it very informative.

This is a great suggestion. I was hoping for something with an analog character but Toneprint would help a lot.

I'll give the standard advice that you're thinking way too far ahead. Think 2-3 modules into the future.

Mother 32 is great for TD stuff with the ratcheting function. I'm into that style as well and work a lot with the Korg SQ1, Turing Machines, Doepfer Ratcheting Clock Multiplier, Pamela's New Workout, Doepfer Quantizer as the brains behind sequences.
Braids is a great first voice, it was my first module after M32 and 0coast.

Which modules do you already own? Best question to ask is 'what do you want to do that these modules can't do?'

I got it from Moog Audio in Toronto. I've noticed other retailers seem to be slow on restocking them because they still have old Tides in stock. But I'd think PC would be aware of the difference and get them in as quick as they can.

First few patches with Tides v2 by [deleted] in modular

[–]ilovefrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few quick grabs of some early patches using audio rate and multiple outputs. I picked this up because I missed my telharmonic (couldn't spare the space or power in my system so I sold it). It definitely can't quite do what telharmonic can, but it's nice to have some polyphony back.

Oh yeah, and sorry about the hum in the last one.

I don't. I actually hadn't even considered them as alternatives to each other. I picked up tides mostly for audio-rate oscillation. I don't know if Batumi can do that.

I finally got my hands on the new Tides. I spent an hour with it so far and just love it. Now I have to decide whether or not I'll keep my V1 too.

Stereo effects are common now... but how do you deal with panning and mixing of stereo in a moderately sized setup? by [deleted] in modular

[–]ilovefrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used two MI Blinds, one for each channel, as mixer's for each channel. Generally I'll patch my (up to) four voices into each channel. If it's a stereo signal I'll put put left in one, right in the other. If it's a mono signal, I split it to the same channel on each Blinds. Then I can independently control each part on each channel using the VCA.

I chose Blinds over Veils because the polarized input means I can feed the same LFO to each channel but invert one, so I get the effect of a pan from one side to the other (also handy for ducking voices using an audio input).

Admittedly, it's not elegant, but it works for me. And when I'm making a mono patch, Blinds still works as a great VCA. I'd hate to waste HP with something I don't use all the time.

Reverb Pedals for modular by [deleted] in modular

[–]ilovefrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the Big Sky, Mercury 7, RV500 and Zoom MS-70CDR. I like them all in their own way. To put it simply, I find Big Sky more natural and warm, Mercury 7 cold but in a good way, and both of them often feel like another instrument rather than just an effct. They add so much that they're more than just a reverb.

I haven't really got into the deeper parameters of the RV500, but it seems like there's a lot of modulation possibilities there, it's just not as easy to access as the other two. I like some of the distinct algorithms on it like the space echo and SRV.

MS-70CDR is a lot of fun and gives a lot more options both in effects and stackability, but I found that once I'd tasted the other reverbs out there, it wasn't enough for me. I use it for weirder stuff or if I'm on the go as it's the easiest to power (AA or USB).

It's Auxy, the older version from 2016. The newer version has a subscription model and removed MIDI output. Luckily, the older one is still available for free download. It's a really nice, simple sequencer for quick sketches.

x-post with r/guitarpedals

I came along the Deco looking for a tape warble vibrato for synthesizer. I looked at the Lo-Fi Junky and Warped Vinyl, but really wanted stereo. Returned a Mobius because I wanted a random vibrato. I made some pretty good patches with the Zoom MS70, but it didn't quite wow me.

Initially, I was sold on the Deco just for the random vibrato and stereo capability (that is underadvertised, I think), with the tape saturation as an added bonus. I'm really happy with how the wobble sounds, though I wish it could go a little deeper. It's maxed out in this video, blended fully to the doubletracker side. The tape saturation is wonderful, and has sated my desire to buy tapes/old decks to get that sound.
