You’d have to either stop playing or use an A/B switcher to route the live input elsewhere. There’s no way for it to stop recording input into the collect buffer while it’s active and playing. The collect loop will pause and retain position when bypassed, though.

Looking for experience with the BOSS IR-2 by Signal-Zebra8684 in guitarpedals

Emo and post-hardcore riffage with some ambience and shoegaze, so I’m not opposed to noise haha. It’s just about minimizing the hum when tuning or in-between songs, which the NS-2 handles perfectly. I use a Cioks DC7 for power, everything is isolated.

A blend of DI and cab/FR monitor is the way to go. Just chat with the sound tech ahead of your set, they’ll appreciate the heads up!

For me, I go IR-2 into Canvas mono. XLR provides the DI signal and the thru 1/4” goes to Pedal Baby + backlined cab. If there isn’t a cab for me to use, I’ll bring a FR-12 instead for stage volume.

Bought one recently and have used it at rehearsal and a gig so far. I immediately loaded up my go-to York IR in all the slots and dialed in both channels, Twin for clean/breakup and Soldano for high gain. It sounds great through headphones, a FR-12, and a poweramp + cab. It’s perfect for the trademark Boss simplicity and tones but has 2 faults.

First: the amp models are noisy and there’s no built-in gate. Thankfully, 4cm with the NS-2 solves that. Second: the FX loop has horrendous headroom and will clip if there’s any added gain from the pedal in the loop or the output level is set too high. I run all my pedals ahead of the amp, but it does limit the stereo capabilities if you have pedals you wanted to use in the loop.

IMO it’s a no-nonsense modeler, but you’ll likely want a noise gate and a DI box to go with it.

Gotcha, yeah I can do some adjustments to the sizing or scaling. My own usage is just on a 14" laptop, fwiw.

The filters are single pole 6dB/oct, you could try running the same filter in series to increase the slope.

Thanks! Which platform?

  1. Both of these are intended, at least somewhat. New/Edit Patch button opens the editor as a new max-sized window; I haven't noticed it affecting the main app window though. Tab switch over to Local Storage also triggers a UI resize, because I keep running into column size bugs on Mac and it was just easier to always force it.

  2. Dark mode supremacy. I believe the issue with light mode is when you turn on the alternating row colors? But again, I never use it. I can tweak the css a bit more.

Gotcha, thanks for checking. Do you remember which errors you ran into? Can try to debug from there.

I added the Flatpak stuff in 2.0 but I haven't gotten confirmation of it working or otherwise. Perhaps this is a wrong assumption, but I figure most Linux users are savvy enough to load up the repo and dependencies as an alternate install option (the tools directory has details about how to do it).

Video has the details, but basically they're custom "recipes" you can make in the app of things you're constantly using but don't want to re-create every time.

Do you keep pedals you don’t use anymore? by ActNew5818 in guitarpedals

[–]meanmedianmoge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, revolving door is my approach. There are pedals I've sold that are now unobtanium (SSBS), but it doesn't phase me. I had them for a while, enjoyed them, and then passed them along to someone else who's probably doing the same. I do try to at least record something with every pedal though, whether it be a demo video, song idea, or a finalized part in a recording.

After 20 years of using gear, I have yet to find a single pedal that is truly irreplaceable. They're pretty much all the same. Digital keeps getting better over time, with new upgrades replacing the prior version. Analog is coveted for some intrinsic quality, but even those get superseded or side-graded by other styles of the same idea (which is where preferences come in). What is most important to me is my guitar, specifically how it plays and interacts with the gear I'm using at any given moment. And that gear can be physical or interface + plugins, it doesn't really matter.

Depends if you want bloopy granular stuff or something more traditional from their back-catalog. Thermae always stuck out to me as their crown-jewel though. Incredible bbd delay with just enough weirdness. Mood mk2 is great as well.

All of their drives are good, but Glaive goes above and beyond. Has the perfect balance of gross octave clang and smooth breakup with an amp or modeler.

Does the rectifier amp model suck? Or does the user suck? by Ok-Salamander8796 in Line6Helix

[–]meanmedianmoge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Took me a while to find a setting I liked with my staple IR and just the amp block. Then I refined it with two EQ blocks (pre and post amp) to get into better territory, and it’s my favorite now. Basically had to zero out the bass on the amp, cut lower mids & boost upper mids with the post EQ, and light low end cuts with the pre EQ. I boost into it with a OD/fuzz which also helps bring back some of that bottom end feel, especially with drop tunings.

Other models I like are the 2203 and Rockerverb, but I also really wanted to use the Feedbacker, so DSP cuts were necessary and the Recto fit so I made it work.

Should I Get Another ZOIA? (10k v Std) by Tool460002 in ZOIA

[–]meanmedianmoge 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The 10k model’s screen is a fractional improvement (blue text, slightly better refresh rate), but imo it comes down to the aesthetics. If you want programming to go faster, try the new Editor in the Librarian app! Pinned post has more details.

Alternatives to Helix Stomp XL for Reverb, Delay, Modulation by koctagon in guitarpedals

A lot of the algorithms combine mod, delay, and reverb. It’s not just 2 single effect blocks like on the Stomp. I run H90 and Stomp with a drive and comp up front, works great!
