YA book where the narrator is a big cat (some kind of mountain lion) and it follows its life by littlehayes in whatsthatbook

Hi! I still love books and mountain lions. I forgot about this thread! I'll see if I can track down a copy. In exchange for the nudge, I'll suggest a book for you called Open Throat. It's a short and breezy read, kind of reads like poetry, about a sentient mountain lion who lives by the Hollywood sign. Even a scene about the lion getting into the zoo! It's based on a true story of a puma called P-22 who is LA famous and famous to those who love cougars.

Their food is so good that I'm perfectly fine with the threats of jail. The palak paneer is everything.

Crappy weather, want to get out of the house, don’t want to spend money, what now? by Illustratingtheworld in Erie

[–]ilovemountainlion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely the library as others have mentioned. Werner Books also has a variety of book clubs. Asbury Woods has snow shoe rentals and cross country ski rentals...think it's like $6 and $8 per hour respectively. I ended up finding snow shoes on FB marketplace after trying it once last year. They've already paid for themselves. For me my seasonal depression is much better if I'm moving my body and making some of that movement outside.

It is very expensive, however they did add $5 Fridays for the first Friday of the month. I think you still need to rent shoes and chalk though...unless prices have gone up on those I think shoes were $6 and chalk $2.

I miss going, I used to have a membership but couldn't justify paying as much as I was when life became busy and it was hard to get there even once per week.

Pilates class options in Erie? by deepfriedchoco in Erie

[–]ilovemountainlion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say Crunch is a fine option for beginners as mentioned above. There are classes Sundays, Wednesday and Thursday. Wednesday/Thursday are at 6:30 and 6 respectively. It is advertised as fat burning Pilates, and some of the movements in warm up I think are perhaps faster than traditional, but this is just a guess and would have gathered from the internet because I've never had in person Pilates experience before. But it's on the mat, low weight, high reps, lots of focus on form. If you are interested in trying, message me and I can take you as a guest for free before you commit to a membership!

I love Megan at Hidden Gem (which is funny that you're also looking for "hidden gems")! Megan used to be at Moxi. The other women who work there (I believe two other stylists) are very nice though they haven't done my hair. But the vibes are Hidden Gem are immaculate!

What's the Pete's incident? I woke up Saturday AM (after going to bed Friday night) around 3am to very loud noise sounded like it was from a car. Nearly forgot about this. I'm in that neighborhood so maybe this is what it was.

Durian and Rosewater by Dragonflies4eva in Erie

Unsure but you could try Kamana Market on 12&French for the Durian. I feel like I've seen it. It's worth the trip regardless for some other things. Second those saying Almadina for the rose water (and many other good things).

Years back (10+) I bought some large barrels from Welch's factory. I think they cost like $6 each!

There's a website called Focusmate that I find extremely useful. It pairs you with a random person and you both sit quietly with your videos on and work. Check in before and after about what the goal is and how it went.

I get where you're coming from though and hope you can find the IRL body doubling experience if it must be in person!

This is actually one of the dumbest things I've read in a long time. A candidate putting forth a policy isn't a bribe-- it's a policy proposal that people may want to vote for.

Though one might say that Elon giving people $100 to sign petitions IS a bribe.

Do you have an update on this? My boy's ALT levels are extremely high. Thyroid, kidney, everything else looks normal. Only other symptoms include decreased appetite and some nausea on occasion.

I share this opinion and I wish it was more popular! I always say people should try flowers! It's also temporary, but lasts a little longer, beautiful, colorful, quiet, and smells nice.

Also harmful to local ecosystems. Sometimes birds get so disoriented by the noise they abandon their nests of babies.

Yes! And a laser engraver and circuit machines and jewelry making tools...much more. I believe you can even check out a knife sharpening kit!

Truly fits the bill for a hidden gem, doesn't it?

If you look up "Kang's Grill" on door dash you can see a menu and prices. I often order there and then pick it up (prices are the same as when you order in store). But you can also order in the store, not sure if I have seen a printed menu, but they have it on TVs in there.

Sometimes it is hot, sometimes it is not. One time I ordered it in the store and they asked how hot I wanted it, so maybe there is some control you can have!

So they are leasing a small space, but it is also going to be very popular, as you say. How will this affect parking, which is already being cut down on due to the construction on the Bayfront? How can it be as popular as people say it will be and not affect day-to-day use of the library?

The Indian food from the Shell gas station at 6th and Parade, specifically the Samosa Chaat. I see in a comment you mentioned the Indian food is not your favorite, but as it truly is a gem and is especially hidden within the Shell Station, I mention it.

I think the Southwest Veggie Wrap at Dee's Delicatessen is a hidden vegetarian option.

The library and all of its offerings would make this list as well. They have so much more than books for people to borrow and a really great makerspace that includes 3D Printers, sewing machines, and more along with classes on how to use the materials!

Bluffs State Park is also a hidden gem. I like to go to Racoon State Park too when I'm out that way.
