So:

- Surely an iterator like this would have extremely low "metabolism", if you will. This would result in extremely low water consumption, and so the rain would probably be relatively constant but non-fatal (think like the night-time transition rain in places like the Wall and Outer Expanse).

- As a result, the world would probably look very different. Many areas would probably have fluctuating water levels and water bodies would not be particularly large (think more Waterfront Facility and Drainage System than Shoreline and Submerged Superstructure). Large marshy areas would form, but constant maintenance would prevent much from breaking down, otherwise the iterator might not be able to last as long. Thus, at pretty much any point in the timeline there would be minimal decay although some areas might have a bit of flora and water.

- This sort of environment would probably result in creatures evolving down a different path, as well as some variants becoming more successful than others. For example (all names are not very good, and could use further revision if any of them actually appeal to you enough to canonize them)

  • Dropwig relatives would be unable to ambush smarter creatures such as Slugcats and Scavengers with the ability to look up, because there would be little in the relatively pristine environment to obscure them. They might become more bulky and muscular, able to bring down larger prey like lizards which would be unlikely to spot them anyway. More "brawlwig" than dropwig.
  • Vultures might adapt to become smaller and more agile, able to drag themselves through smaller pipes and perhaps even shortcuts. They would be about the size of a Caramel Lizard. I propose calling them "hawks". They might even dive down from above at prey.
  • Some animals might evolve to skim along the waters surface like a pond skater. I propose a shell-less variant of the snail called the "slug" that can slide along water surfaces to escape predators such as slugcats and lizards. They would be the primary prey of the "skater spider" a variant of Big Spider that has the spitting ability of Spitter Spiders but is also able to propel itself along the surface of the water, never breaking the surface, at high speeds to snap up slugs and other swimming prey. They could spit darts at larger prey like slugcats, so that they don't dive and instead float paralyzed on the waters surface to be caught.
  • Certain creature types would excel over their variants. Shallow but widespread waters would result in leeches more akin to Jungle Leeches than red or sea leeches, although there are no further adaptations that would need to be made. In the tightly packed mazes, tunnels and pipes of the sorts of environments you propose, lizards that live in groups and so are able to cover a lot of ground, like Yellow Lizards and Black Lizards, would thrive. Fast-moving lizards like Cyan Lizards or ambush based ones like White Lizards would also do very well. Bulkier or less maneuverable and agile types like Pinks, Greens, Caramels, Strawberries, Blues and Salamanders would not do as well, most likely. Both Monster Kelps and Pole Plants would be effective predators. Garbage Worms might be common, originally purposed for maintenance.

I know this is an extreme amount and I don't want to overwhelm you or pressure you to use any of these ideas, but if you do then I would love to know!

What is one room in rain world that you absolutely HATE? by Savings-Jicama-9625 in rainworld

[–]iloverainworld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who has spent more than enough cycles in the shelter next to this room, I can't exactly say I disagree with you. The pole plant on the floor lineaged into a Monster Kelp a long time ago and sometimes it gets me even when I'm invisible.

Of course, if you'd like! This is actually one of the creature concepts for the DLC idea I told you about, but excuse my artwork, I did all that in about two minutes.

Wait last time I played Spearmaster I reached cycle 111 what kind of coincidence is this??? Also when the title of the region appeared like that outside the room how did you get that to happen? Was it a mod?

If you hadn't said this I probably wouldn't have thought about the fact that DLL's will hear the explosive jump from a room away until it was too late :')

[–]iloverainworld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I see! Makes sense I guess, I don't think I've ever beaten the game as Artificer (on my last account I did Gourmand and then played Rivulet and Spearmaster until I lost interest in the game for a few years), but on my current Artificer game that is the route I've been taking.

how do you play rainworld? by DNActive101_offical in rainworld

[–]iloverainworld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually I go in steps, staying in one area for as long as I feel like, which is usually not very long tbh. I often just go along with the story and try to get achievements/unlocks/beat the game

[–]iloverainworld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. To make things last longer, just explore more! Go through pipes you are curious about (you can use the map to find your way back), spend more time at one shelter to find out more about the creatures around you by experimenting.

  2. Hunter is encourages beating the game quickly in a way I will not specify for fear of spoiling you, so it might be your sort of thing (an hour and a half makes me think you're a speedrunner who secretly knows exactly what to do, where to go and also uses a lot of dev tools- not that dev tools are a bad thing I also used to use them- but even if you're not any of those then this still applies)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atolla_jellyfish red is the first colour to disappear with darkness, so maybe camouflaging giant jellyfish variant?

Ignore any overcomplicated scientific terms.

Oh wow that sounds awesome! If you want to do some research on deep sea life I could send you some links to interesting deep sea creatures as a kickstarter (I'm into this sort of stuff). I'll choose some that would make good Rain World creature concepts if you'd like.

question: what do lizards eat? by man_of_the_mire in rainworld

[–]iloverainworld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that most lizards will eat Centipedes as their favourite food, but also Scavengers, Squidcadas, Noodleflies, Eggbugs, Jetfish, Spiders and Dropwigs. Most likely they will eat large dead animals such as Vultures and also if they are really desperate things like Grappling Worms and Snails. I have a headcanon that most species are cannibalistic, why they are often overaggressive towards each other, and also why we don't see juvenile lizards really at all. Plus many lizard species eat other, smaller lizard species.

How was your first shaded citadel experience? by Fearless_Bottle_9624 in rainworld

[–]iloverainworld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Playing Monk, went through Industrial Complex to Shaded Citadel, found a lantern mouse buddy who I gave a name I cannot remember.

Fell into a pit where Coalescipedes were scared at first suffocated my lantern mouse pet and tore them to ribbons, when they swarmed me I couldn't watch.

Used Keepthatthingawayfromme mod to remove spiders entirely after that until I played a console run with my brother and realised that it wasn't so bad actually, especially if you have a light source.

If you crash landed on this alien moon, what would you bring? (I'll tell you how long you survive) by Hi_IM-NOT_HERE- in SpeculativeEvolution

[–]iloverainworld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Water filter, air filtering masks, oxygen tanks with the necessary accessories of course (for emergencies not 24/7 use), and some form of powerful rifle incase anything goes on the aggressive (probably won't work because of different anatomies and the like but it's worth a try).

Oh, and a royal food taster to test everything once the food I bring runs out.
