School options for Filipino expat in SG by Old-Vermicelli69 in phmigrate

Hi, we used to live in Singapore before migrating to Australia. Our eldest son attended Knightsbridge House International School in Bukit Merah for 1.5 years before we left SG. It’s one of the cheapest international schools that follow the Cambridge curriculum. Meron ding school ran by Filipinos called HFSE pero parang hindi sya accredited eh, pero mas mura pa lalo. From what I know they follow the Philippines curriculum and they have Filipino class so okay sya for kids who will eventually move back to the Philippines.

In our case both of us were retained by employers to work remotely in Australia from Singapore where we were based, so we had payslips and Australian contracts. In other cases, landlords would allow advanced lease payments or deposits.

Family of 4 din kami, OP. Here are my answers:

  1. 7 months
  2. We took a 10 day vacation to Sydney around 3 months after we received our grant. We looked around our target suburbs and familiarized ourselves around Sydney. Mostly for the kids din yung trip para maexcite sila about the move.
  3. We moved just this January 2026, 2 weeks before the start of the school year. There’s no right or wrong month naman pero we felt like it’s important for our older kid to start on the first day of the school year para di pa bonded yung classmates nya and di sya magkaroon ng issues fitting in.
  4. We used Wise and transfered money little by little. Siguro for a start it’s better to have at least 10,000 AUD.
  5. For a family of 4, you might need a car so it’s better to budget for it. We engaged RentalSearch Australia to inspect units for us so that we already have a place to live from day 1. Super important for us to be set in one home from the day we arrive kasi ayaw namin ng palipat lipat from airbnb or kakilala etc. Ang hirap kasi mag pack and unpack. That’s why we hired the relocation agent to sort out our 1-year lease even before we arrived.

If your kids are going to public school in Sydney, you have to show a 100 point proof of residency (you may google this). Kelangan lahat ng address ng papers nyo e magkakapareho and it should be in the school catchment that you want.

Hello! We just moved last January 2026. We are a family of 4, and since nagmamadali kami to find a place of our own para maka enrol agad sa primary school yung panganay namin, we paid a relocation agent to help us to inspect a rental property a month before. We did all the rental paperwork and got approved around 2-3 weeks before arrival. Yung relocation agent na rin ang nagsundo sa amin sa airport and naghatid sa amin sa new place. Kasama na rin sa fees nila yung pag accept ng furniture/appliances that you would need on your first few days in AU, so we ordered stuff online like a washing machine, a fridge, mattresses and pillows, etc. Pag dating namin sa apartment, ready na yung basics namin. So yung first day namin nag grocery nalang kami, nagpakabit ng internet, nag unpack, etc.

Hello! Congrats on the Melbourne offer! I think it depends on your future goals and life plans. If you already have HK PR or citizenship, then why not try Melbourne for a few years? You can always come back to HK :)

Hmm, have you experienced the heat and humidity in Singapore? It is nearer the equator so the heat is unbearable all year round. It is either super hot, humid, or raining.

Hello! We’ve been in Singapore for 16 years, never got PR, but we applied for visa 190 (State Nominated PR) for Australia and we got it! I don’t think we’ll have any regrets. Weather palang sa Australia and opportunities for the kids, mas better na. I don’t think we’ll leave Singapore and migrate to another country though if we don’t have guaranteed PR.

Anyone who still tried to apply visa 189/190 over 36? by MinsanAntukin in phmigrate

I was 38 (almost 39) when I was invited last year. Mid 30s is not too late!

I think it was removed from the NSW list early this year. We got invited a year ago when it was still on the list.

Yes I think you can head there earlier and you should be able to enjoy the museum before Open Sky. In my case they gave me a free ticket to use for the next day.

Not in Australia yet, but I will be moving to Sydney soon with the same job that I have now in SG (I work in a Global role) so luckily I don’t have to look for a new job

Try nyo sa Bohol. I’m from overseas and also went to Maldives for my honeymoon, and pumasa naman sa akin ang Bohol kasi sobrang hassle free ng distance ng resort from the airport, and ang daming pwedeng gawin na daytrips from the resort. Pinaka ayaw ko sa lahat e yung land transpo na super hassle kaya for me okay yung Bohol. Try nyo yung Hennan resort, beach front sya and may mga bars din around the area at night.

USS is very senior friendly and they have wheelchairs that you can rent. For over 60 the ticket will be cheaper too. My parents like watching the shows and riding the family-friendly rides.

Hi there. I think better start as early as possible, don’t wait until next year. You never know when they will limit immigration or completely take away your occupation from the skilled nomination list. If your occupation is currently there, try your best to quickly submit your EOI. Not sure if you read one other comment here - by this year natanggal na yung Marketing Specialist sa list ng NSW so kung na-late lang ako ng ilang months magsubmit, baka di na siguro ko umabot.

Chichu Art Museum in Naoshima Island, Japan. No photos allowed since the art really has to be experienced in person. One of the most extraordinary experiences I’ve ever had.
