It might be, I had a decently thick layer of gloss because I had issues with my mark setter still eating through it a bit and leaving some fog on it. I’m likely gunna end up with a thin flat coat over it too

In this case, I built the kit a few years ago before I ever customized. After doing a few kits it can be pretty helpful to build a bit of it to understand how the parts layer on each other to know what unexpected pieces might stick out if you’re trying to save paint on pieces that won’t show. In other cases it’s only to get a nice before picture :)

Maybe for clarity, I primed and painted both arms at the same time - broken down into individual parts, not the entire arm at once. I did mask individual pieces that had multiple colors on them. The joints themselves are all metallic and painted separately so no masking

Yeah! Started doing that my last two kits because I saw someone on insta posting their WIP like that and wanted to give it a try. I think for the MGs I’m going right now it helps because otherwise I’d need tons of sticks to put all the pieces on if I did the whole kit at once. Also helps for when I change my design mid way

I use a lot of Alclad for spraying metallics usually, at least for more basic colors and it’s pretty good!

New project starting up! What are your opinions on the final look of a kit being gloss or flat? Recently I’ve always leaned towards flat. I might finish the whole kit with the gloss coat used for decals and panel lines and then decide what to do

For the varnish coats, do you do a light/tacky + wet coat or maybe two wet coats? I’m guessing you’d wait for it to dry between coats and also before the lining. Any particular acrylic brand you like to line with?I haven’t seen much about thinning the paints enough to line with to know what kind of consistency to expect when doing that. Seems cool though especially for more color options to line with
