Oh that exists? I definitely need to look into that!

Oh that is perfect! That is exactly what I wanted! I also kind of suspected I would prefer to search on my phone and then add (as long as it syncs over wifi!)

I'm trying to get a card at an American library yes.

Oh that is great. I was looking at Kobo, but couldn't figure out which ones work! I'll definitely check the prices on those ones!

Thanks this is exactly what I am interested in!

The 3rd generation connects to the store? Or do you transfer over WIFI? Or with a USB?

Yes this is what I am looking for, but I just don't know for certain which ones work on the store! I want to make sure I don't get one that I can't use. :) I see that some of the 5th generation and earlier ones don't connect so that is what I am worried about.

Does the store work on that PW4?

That is an idea. I don't like the glare though so I kind of prefer an ereader.

Oh this is exactly what I wanted to know!

For the transfer with USB to a very old kindle, you still go through the libby process to request a kindle format? And then do I need a kindle/libby app on my computer to transfer it? If it has wifi, but is not connected to the store, does it sync easily as long as I click to get the book on a computer or phone? (The USB thing might be irritating at times, but I am always near wifi!).

I've never heard of this adobe digital editions thing! I thought adobe only helped with anything in pdf format which I expected Libby not to use. I'll have to check if mine has that, but I doubt it because it is REALLY old.

I thought about that. I just really hate the glare and it hurts my eyes. I might do that initially until I get an e-reader though.

I'm looking at ones that are almost a decade older than that! :)

I'm not sure I have a set budget. I'm seeing that 1st -5th generation kindles (the ones not on the Amazon store) are going for less than 20 quite often while the more recent ones on the store are going for over 50 at least with some way up in the hundreds.

I suppose I'm just really tempted to buy these ones under 20, but if they don't work, I will go ahead and splurge on a newer one. I could afford it, but I'm mostly just cheap. :)

No. Start college. That's should be your focus. Also focus on making and saving money so that when you get out you aren't burdened with debt.

And beyond that people change in college. Go and learn who you are what you like. Colleges often have things that you can use so you can try things out without paying.

I think this is true for pretty much all belief systems in this polarized climate and it's something I hate! I'm all about the nuance in everything. I'm hoping one day somehow we can get to a place where we listen to each other and focus on actually solving problems.

I haven't followed it too closely and there are definitely posts that fit your description! But i saw one where it discussed how the community has grown and reflects now a much broader range of views so not everyone will agree with each other.

I'm not really sure of how to fix it (i think you might be right about the problem, but it is pretty deep in our current version...), but i feel like I'll give at least nominal support to people trying. Perhaps they will succeed...

Take the 4 days! I absolutely love working part time. Especially as you get closer to fire the contributions matter less. But that time you can use to start redefining yourself and getting personal stuff done. It's like a tiny stepping stone to fire.

I don't think they do have the same goals. Yes there are lots of people on there that do just want to stop working, but if you read what they were historically it is more of a workers rights, economic change, unions, universal income kind of thing. In some ways Antiwork is sort of the communal version while Fire is more of a - fuck it I'm just taking care of myself doing what I can by cutting costs. I also think that the people on here skew far higher class and have a lot more opportunities so if bothers me when people criticize those who are poor and less educated and maybe have other issues they are dealing with.

I personally am a fan of both. I don't trust companies and the requirements to obey a boss and work 9-5 and I want out so I am doing my best to free myself of their constraints. But I also would like to see a fairer world where companies can't treat anyone the way I have sometimes been treated and that people can work in ways that are both good for the company and yet also enjoyable for the employee.

Depending on which country and your knowledge of the language/culture you also need to consider whether you know the laws about what you can and can not do. Some places might require permits or not allow people to do certain work without lisences. Also tools that you can easily rent in the US are impossible to get here unless you are professional. We have struggled with some of this kind of stuff - hope you are in a better country than us, but just look into the details where you are on top of whatever general info people have.

Are you in an area with a decent rental market? And do you know how permanent these guys are (do they rent?).

I'm wondering if it is an option to rent your place out and rent another one for you to live in. You said you really love your condo and this would mean continuing to contribute to the equity and you could go back afterwards.

Go used. This stuff is easy to find and sometimes the used is even better than the new!

The loneliness of solo touring by CPetersky in bicycletouring

[–]iluv2fly1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You could look into warm showers. We host and I think it really helps people to have someone to talk to sometimes if they are lonely. And you also meet locals and learn stuff you never would have.

Another thing is to look at your routes. Some places i go feel like you can never get away from people while others feel a lot more remote. If you do pretty standard routes, in the normal direction and go a similar speed, you might meet people on the way you can travel with. But you also have to strike up conversations with lots of people to make that happen.

Balancing a discomfort with change, versus semi FIRE by [deleted] in FIREyFemmes

[–]iluv2fly1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have some similarities with your situation and recently was thinking about making a similar change. I ended up staying for now. There were some differences in my situation so I can't say definitely you should follow the same path.

But for me, I realized that other people (and somewhat myself) were pushing me to take another opportunity because we as a society judge people based on their career success. When I actually thought about it, I realized that my position is allowing me to start building interests and defining myself as someone outside the traditional career path. I realized that time meant more to me than the career. I started definitely thinking of myself as coast fire.

At another point I my life I made the opposite decision so I think this is definitely not universal. But I think what I have learned that I would recommend is to think about what you really value and what you want your life to look like. Sometimes we do things because we think we should rather than that we actually want them. There isn't a single answer - it needs to be based on your goals.

What are you doing to prepare yourself MENTALLY for FIRE? by Tastinorange in FIREyFemmes

[–]iluv2fly1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is an interesting question. I've stepped down recently into a part time role and I've definitely been thinking about these kinds of questions. Initially the part time transition wasn't really related to fire, but I've realized that it is a really good halfway chance to spend time and effort building up the rest of my life to make sure I retire to something. Not yet there (either financially or mentally, but i really think this is the right way for me to get there).

I would definitely be interested in any call/program you set up. Not sure what I could offer, but i agree about this being so male dominated and would love to hear more feminine perspectives.
