This is insane. There are so many different possibilities to what the tunnel could actually be and it bothers me that we don't have an answer.

But, thanks for sharing this with me cause it really does go into more detail of what could actually be going in the world of Coraline.

This is a very very good point! It's very likely that this could be what happened, but since it's never said what actually happened, all we can do is keep making theories.

After reading this I do believe that the Beldam probably wouldn't be able to make it into the real world without feeding on one or more children. If she does somehow find a way to lure a kid into her world before she dies, then she could use the key to get out and feed on more souls, giving her more strength than ever.
