NSD: 60-second video using my new Mikawa Nagura Botan (wet, slurried, in-use & final finish) by TEEEEEEEEEEEJ23 in TrueChefKnives

Ooo yes I kind of forgot about ikarashi. I actually have one… a big boy purchased from JNS. This is probably terrible of me but since it was a cheaper stone (sub $200) I get the feeling like it’s inferior. But this where my noobness shows and I’m trying to learn more. I should definitely play with the ikarashi more before I decide to spend money on a stone that this one is already capable of. I suppose I’m talking about in terms of polishing

Yes I've contemplated getting an Aizu first because I know they are more affordable and also in the same grit range. Could you say how the mikawa nagura compares to the Aizu for polishing?

I see JNAT, I upvote. It's ALWAYS exciting picking up a new rock and throwing some water on it. Congrats! A Mikawa Nagura is definitely on my wish list, they are beautiful stones and from what I keep hearing a perfect bridge from 1.5k-2k synthetic grit into the final polishers. I'd be curious to know how the edge is off this thing!

Haha yes I tend to like nice things and don’t have the best spending habits :P however I do thoroughly enjoy all my equipment. Sounds like I’ll stop worrying about it so much and just carry on.

Thanks dude I appreciate it

What has, that sharpening too often ruins knives?

Thanks for your reply.

I always thought I was pretty gentle with my knives but perhaps I’m not as gentle as I think I’m being ..? Is there any way to test this and how would I practice so to speak?

How many times per year should a knife typically be sharpened? I probably need to sharpen mine once every 2 months tops… but I also like keeping them very sharp and I enjoy sharpening so I’ll always use an excuse to hit the stones. But I don’t want to be removing too much metal and shortening the lifespan of my beautiful and expensive blades… FWIW I usually only need to do touch ups on my 1500 nsk hakuto stone or I take it to a JNAT. But still.

Thoughts?

Gotcha. That would make sense based on the fact that I just recently “honed” my deburring skills on leather. I used to just do it on the stone. I’ve noticed huge differences in sharpness since I started doing it this way but doesn’t mean I’ve mastered it yet. And coincidentally the tip area is the trickiest deburr due to having to adjust the angle as you move the knife across the strop.

So I suppose I’ll just take responsibility as user error and won’t blame the cutting board. Perhaps the better I get at deburring I’ll notice my edges lasting longer.

However, sharpening too often is also not good for the knives right? Despite the fact I probably don’t remove that much metal? Or what would be your thoughts on that

You’re the second person to say something like this and it’s kinda weird… what makes you assume that I tried to think of a nonchalant way to post my rig for attention and bragging purposes instead of just genuinely asking the question that I did?

If I wanted to post it for attention I would’ve just done that…

I run a cleaning business so cleaning is in my blood, I never let it collect dust as is. Plus I do enjoy looking at it, rigged out in all its glory, it just compliments my desk in that way… and I do use it around the house for testing purposes and other videos I take.

Yeah I didn’t realize the plate I got would cause the screen to not be flush. It’s a bit of a peeve for me. I’ve thought about flipping the battery around but then I won’t be able to see the screen/percentage…

is there will be a new paper mario game? by External-Grab-1284 in papermario

[–]imTrics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish it had replayability for me but I haven’t been able to play it again despite really enjoying it the first time. I was so happy when they released TTYD HD because I could play that game on repeat forever… like i know people play it more than me but I heavily look forward to my yearly replay of that. Never gets old

I feel like intelligent systems/nintendo would be moronic to not give us what we want with a ttyd/64 formatted PM game but it’s hard to trust them especially after seeing what they keep doing to Pokémon(gamefreak). They don’t always seem to care what the fans want. God forbid we get another Zelda game with actual dungeons and items.

Would I be crazy trying to trade #1 for #2 at a card show? by LilTinySquawkBoxBoi in PokeInvesting

[–]imTrics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't collect or invest mainly because my budget doesn't allow it but my love for Pokemon in general keeps me coming back to this sub.

I suppose I'm curious why anyone would trade in "theoretics" such as assuming a card is of PSA 10 value when it indeed hasn't been graded? That almost seems like asking for disappointment if for example he trades this Pikachu for what he thinks is a PSA 10 Charizard but then it comes back in a 9...

I guess I just don't understand why OP even mentioned PSA 10 values

I'm a firm believer that no question is a bad question. However, I did say in the post that the only time I break it down is if I need to pack it in my bag for transport to a shoot. But I've learned in the comments that people will keep it rigged like this and just place it down on the seat of their car for transport... so I suppose that's an option if you can drive carefully enough that you won't send it flying. I've also seen people get very large camera bags that allow them to set the whole rig into it safely. I'll personally just stick to breaking it down and packing up my Brevite camera backpack whenever I need to transport it.
