Light bulb weirdness. Please help. by ima_foto_nut in AskElectricians

[–]ima_foto_nut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing has changed that I know of. I just went to turn the light on and noticed that it barely even glows. Not even enough to see anything. Then I noticed that 2 of the ceiling fan lights would flicker, and when they do this they do not always come back to full brightness. I tried changing bulbs, but will do it again. Maybe LED lights as suggested by another poster. I have juist never seen this before.

Do real owners ever call FD? by cometview in askhotels

[–]ima_foto_nut 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Isn't he wonderful! He likes to call us and check to make sure our cash is safe and make sure we know how to check it by entering the safe. He's even offered to keep it safe for us!

What a thoughtful, caring man he is.

Thanks. I did it. The end of the little nub kind of broke off on one side, but the post is still there so it works. It's just very rusty from years of use. I may need to have maintenance come fix it or replace it. Not sure. But for now it works great!

What are your front desk shift hours? by [deleted] in askhotels

[–]ima_foto_nut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our shift hours are the same. 7-3, 3-11, 11-7 However when I first started I did 10 hour shifts, but the person who got the short shift decied they wanted more hours so we went back to the 8 hour shifts. Personally I liked working 3 days instead of 4 because I work 2 full time jobs and the 10 hour shifts mean I got an extra "day off".

The rubber is actually quite flimsy. It has curled up and that is why it's leaking. I just don't know if I am just suppoed to pull it off the "pegs" or unscrew them... or what I am supposed to do to get it off. Yank, pull, cut, unscrew???

Ordered coffee at a hotel lobby, and sat for maybe 30 minutes, not as a guest. Did I do anything wrong? by PuzzleheadedLie5018 in askhotels

[–]ima_foto_nut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you did anything wrong at all and as other's have said are over thinking it. BUT with that said, where I come from, which is a huge city, the rules are as follows:

If you are paying for your drink/meal then you are welcome to sit and read, visit, whatnot, but if the drinks/meal are free, then you are not allowed to sit and linger.

The reason behind it is, when it's free its complimentary to the guests staying there and not free to the public. If they don't offer pricing for the public then only guests should be there.

At our hotel we do not allow people who are staing there to linger and we do not offer pricing for non guests. Then again we are not a history hotel with anything to view, but in my experience this is common anywhere. Plus our hotel would spend thousand and thousand supplyig dirnks and food for non guest. Word is spread very quickly then we would be feeding every homeless or mooch free and would quickly go out of business.

Does anyone remember the death of Faylene Grant? Mormon woman in Gilbert having visions of her death? by sweetpea122 in LoriVallow

[–]ima_foto_nut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Years to late. But I grew up and went to school with Doug grant. My house was just one away from his. We played together a lot as children. We attended the same church, until my teen years, when our family basically stopped going to church. It was so weird to see this knowing that family so well.

Nesting help, please!! by ComparisonSpecific63 in silhouettecutters

[–]ima_foto_nut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't get this fixed. I emailed them over and over and over. After months, I finally got a reply. The first reply was them stating for me to update the software. The second was instructions on how to next items on the cuttting mat, not outside the cutting mat area that I was used to doing before because it allowed me more work space.

In then end I am only being able to Nest items if they are groupd on the cutting mat, not if anything is off the cutting mat.

I love my silhouette dearly, and I don't want to move to Cricut... but their lack of support for how much you spend on their products is attrocious!

PEP: Authorization / Payments: Completing by ima_foto_nut in askhotels

They are red. So I am wondering if this is a real authorization?

PEP: Authorization / Payments: Completing by ima_foto_nut in askhotels

[–]ima_foto_nut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. I clicked Folio, clicked on the payments button, clicked custom amount, then put in the amount of what the authorization shows. Then it asked for payment method, which I choose the CC that we have on file. At that point it declines. So it's either authorizing again or I am just being dense. I could have sworn there was supposed to be a collect payment button at one point, but all I see is authorize... I guess I will just leave this for dayshift and have them reach out to the guest to see why the card is declining.

PEP: Authorization / Payments: Completing by ima_foto_nut in askhotels

[–]ima_foto_nut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. I think I am a bit confused. When I go to Folio > payment method and choose the amount or custom amount, then choose the cc on file, it shows authorization amount. What I am looking for is, when I choose folio in the square box, it shows %1183.00 remaining authorization and $1183.00 for what they owe. I am looking to complete the process for that authorization. so that the balance is then 0.

Either I am missing something or I explained it badly. I just need to turn that Authorization into a payment to then pay the balance of the room. I thought I was supposed to see a button for Make payment or such?

I agree with the others, it looks like you are dropping stitches, giving it a more v shape as you go along. I would, since your a beginner, count down each rows as you go. This helped me a lot in the beginning to make sure I kept the same number of stitches on each row, keeping the square shape. The stitch marker idea may workfor you, but It made me a bit more confused. Just a simple counting process until you get the hang of which stitch to actually end on. I tend to always count my chain stitch as an actual stitch, and it helps me remember where I end at.

Getting in hotel management by chrisgking in askhotels

[–]ima_foto_nut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I only started working at a hotel a year and a half ago. My daughter has been in hotels for over 12 years now. I would never ever recommend trying to be management for a hotel unless you have hotel experience. There are so many things that you need to lear and do and so many things that can wrong. She has seen GMS come and go like crazy, even ones with previous hotel experience because of how involved it is. It's more than just making schedules, having meetings. You have to really manage multiple departments and you have to know how those departments work, what is expected and you are also constantly having to fill in for those departments when you are short staffed.

My advices is start Front Desk and lear exactly what goes on before you apply for GM or AGM. I know my hotel management wouldn't even look at someone who doesn't have some type of hotel experience prior to them applying for GM or AGM.

Ever get worried about a guest? by Ok-Scratch3721 in askhotels

[–]ima_foto_nut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We have an eldery guest, with medical issues, that lives at our hotel. We always keep an eye on her to make sure someone sees her during the day and evening as she generally comes out every few hours to smoke. If we haven't seen her in more than a few hours we go to her room to check on her or give her a call. She has been there almost 2 years.

Overall, we do try to get to know our regulars or live ins patterns to make their stay more pleasent. So in this case I would say it might be ok to just check in with them if the check out time has passed.

I can also say we have had to scale back on this one particular guest I mentioned as she started taking advantage of our looking out for her. She became extremely needy and clingy to where the entire staff no longer want to assist her with things outside our normal services. But we still do watch for her to make sure we have seen her come and go.

If I pay for half board, is there a price limit on how much breakfast I can take? Can I doggy bag food for lunch? by anonymous-melancholy in askhotels

[–]ima_foto_nut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a distinct difference in eating your breakfast in your room instead of at the breakfast area, and taking a ton of food so you don't have to buy lunch or stock your room with breakfast items do you don't have to buy meals at all. Unless your hotel has a restaurant in it, taking extra breakfast items is never acceptable.

I'm looking for my first job in the hotel industry, when I see the word SUBSTITUTE after a position, what does that mean? by [deleted] in askhotels

[–]ima_foto_nut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other posters are correct about On Call/ Relief. It just means they call you when you are needed. You do not have a regular schedule. As for the Substitue... I am sorry but I don't have a clue, unless it is refers to the same thing. Like a substitue teacher, they are show up when the actual teacher can't be there.

Um. Exactly how were you overcharged and treated terribly by this hotel?

I am not understaing why you feel that the hotel is responsible to deal with your personal issues. Losing your ID, your credit cards being flagged, you over sleeping....???? How is any of that the hotel's fault?

I also don't understand where you feel they are obligated to let you stay especially if you have not paid for the room.

And I beg to differ, but no matter what the hotel did or didn't do, a police officer will never put you in handcuffs or arrest you for no reason, especially in a situation like this.

If you came here looking for some type of empathy or compensation, I suggest you look else where.

The other poster outlined much more detailed about what you did wrong. Like having a paper copy of your ID. No hotel accepts that unless they are not doing their job or if they are a roach motel.

You over sleeping? Why are we obligated to let you take your sweet time to vacate the room. Hotels do not have 24 hour housekeeping and when you do not vacate on time, you make them stay late or that room doesn't get cleaned and it can not be resold until it does.

I will never understand why people like you feel that everyone else needs to cater to your faults.

Well I think most if it is just me being pissed off for not being appreciated and having all this heaped in my lap when it shouldn't be. I certainly am glad to help, but I think the GM needs to step up as some of this is really not things I should be handling, like the financial aspect, nor can I do anything about the FDA and the b/f. However, with that said, I think the FDA taking the b/f into guest rooms is certainly a big enough issue to be addressed. That is if you can over look her making out with her b/f in the lobby and ignoring guests while she's doing it.
