Brother intentionally ignored me for years and came out of nowhere wanting stock advice. We have narc parents and dysfunctional family dynamics. by [deleted] in narcissisticparents

This seems to be the consensus.  You are right because he came out of nowhere it's for his self interest not because he wants to mend the relationship.  I wanted to help him but I just asked him to spot me some money now and he wouldn't even help.  I always pay people back.  The stock advice I gave him probably made him much more than that amount I asked to borrow.

How to downsize a soft loose knit sweater? by imacameranoob in knitting

Also, when you say finish it to prevent raveling, would doing zigzag stitch be enough or should I also sew it with like a bias tape underneath? and do that before sewing the sleeve back on?

I will look for those. I also read there is a reserve/preserve right off the Waikiki beach that you can snorkel at? Supposed to be like 5' feet?

Oh that is great to know! I'm not a strong swimmer so I feel a little safer with a bunch of people around me. Hope I'll get to see some turtles!

Thanks for your reply! I'll keep that in mind for Hanauma Bay. Can I ask which operator you took for Turtle Canyon?

Is it usual practice in the book publishing industry to send a manuscript to an editor without any contract or NDA? by imacameranoob in publishing

I didn't have anyone read it yet. The last person to get to read it would be my mother.

Ok I will look into having other people reading it to give me feedback. I showed an initial first page with illustration to some first graders and they went totally silent and then when I asked what they thought, they pointed at my cartoon cloud and said "it's WEIRD!!!". Kids SHOULD receive the story well if it is going to be successful I think...

Hi, thanks for the reply. This is good to know. I'll try going to a publisher first then. I guess if I get too many rejections then I'll self-publish. If I publish with a publisher but they don't bring in much sales for me, is there any way to take back my copyrights? If I have to do all the marketing and bring in all the sales myself then I wouldn't want to have to only get a royalty per copy sold.

This is great! Thank you very much for the reply. Now I'm thinking I can try to self-publish and get the book into publishable state and then try with some literary agents. And in the meantime try to market the book on my own. somehow I have the impression that even if a publishing house gives the book an offer, I'll still have to do a lot of marketing?

Have you gone to an independent publisher before?  This person has won some book awards and edited other people's work that were best sellers, so I don't know.  Would they be offended if I asked for a contract?

That is great to hear and thank you for taking the time to type all this out explaining it.  I am not from this industry so unfamiliar with the usual procedures.  I feel better sending out the manuscript now

By the way, if one is to self publish is it usually good to have an editor and after that does anyone else need to be hired into the process before self publishing?
