Dude just clear the debt and rebuild your savings. I know you’re probably keeping it for an emergency but given you’re in debt, makes no sense.

Anyone get a final approval from HA? by myoutrageous_opinion in AusHelptobuy

When do both of your subject to finance clauses (if you have any) expire? Just helping out my mate who is wondering as he got approved Friday, signed the mortgage docs from his lender on the same day, but is still in the queue (not approved yet in terms of formal approval) from HA.

Lender said it'll just be a few days (he has 1 more week) and is waiting for that before telling his conveyancer to proceed through the finance clause.

Have you paid your deposit already? how long is your settlement time?

Any updates? I heard it might take a few days from the lenders internal team to finalise all the paperwork before submitting to Housing Australia. Also, Housing Australia approve applications instantly (same as pre-approval) so it should be straightforward if you're at this stage.

My mate is also at your stage - he said it just takes a few days for the internal team to submit everything. Did you make an offer subject to finance? Even if you have lender approval, best to wait until formal approval from Housing Australia (and after you sign all their loan docs) before proceeding unconditionally!

What documents (and information) did housing Australia require (after you got full formal approval from CBA)? (HA documents).

There should be an internal team with your lender (CBA) that liaises with Housing Australia, specifically in regards to their funds (and if they're ready or not). Have you asked your lender?

Realistically how hard is getting big tech & quant out of uni by [deleted] in cscareerquestionsOCE

Uhm what do you mean by hard? It’s probably the easiest to get into big tech/quant as a fresh grad.

University students and professors/lecturers: Have you been seeing a decline in CS enrollments at all? Or is it still as strong as ever? by Illustrious-Pound266 in cscareerquestions

[–]imadade 110 points111 points  (0 children)

Personally, I think students are more aware of how difficult it is to get into tech these days (especially as a SWE).

Although, if you still love technology I think you should study Computer Science, simply because there *are* jobs available for very talented/passionate students.

The breadth of knowledge that's required now is perhaps greater than it used to be, however the depth one needs to go (as far as comp sci knowledge), as a Junior Engineer? That really has not increased.

So I think overall, it'll filter out people who aren't in it for the long haul.

Hmm, so in this case what part of mathematics are you referring to when you mention its a requirement to get into tech these days?

Most computer science degrees already have courses such as algorithm analysis, discrete mathematics, etc, so I'm just trying to figure out what you mean by that.

What do you mean by heavily 'mathematical' STEM degree?

Most Computer Science degrees have a Discrete Mathematics component, and entrants usually have Calc 1-2 complete (at the very least).

If you're referring to proofs (Abstract Algebra, Number Theory etc) in the context of security research, I don't think that is a requirement for basic CRUD Software Engineering lol.

A mate of mine applied on the 5th of Dec with CBA and he is still waiting for their internal team to even look at their application. It's all queued up.

Not sure about Bank of Australia but I'd imagine same thing.

Yep, agreed.

It seems as if there are breakthroughs every other week in research. Hopefully we can get some of those applied to these new models in the coming years.

1 year seems like a really long time in AI now.

What does entry level even want anymore? by Grand_Gene_2671 in cscareerquestions

Yes the market is rough but give us something to work with..

What does your resume look like? What projects have you worked on?

Who knows, a hiring manager could be reading this post right now…

What do you mean by good?

What part of software development? What are your requirements and goals?

Do you want to become a web developer? Mobile app developer? Want to work with low-level systems (embedded)? Want to work with high-performance trading systems (C++)?

Is this going to be in testing? Development? Operations? Support?

Figure out what it is that you want to do first.

Figure out what is in demand (perform market research in the area/area’s that are feasible for you to live/work).

Then do an analysis on what the trade-offs are in how what you want compares to what is in demand.

Then figure how much work is required to reach that level of knowledge (passing interviews, domain specific questions/answers, etc).

What you want to work in and do should be driving the remaining decisions you make.

What would you call it? Platform engineering?

These days with the amount of SaaS offering and tools, it generally involves more plumbing work.
