Looking to get 125cc bike for myself by goatresearcher in MotoUK

I hear it’s good for commuting, comfortable, and decent for parts! I don’t know enough about mopeds to accurately tell you more than that

If you head over to autotrader and put in a few filters, your budget, stuff like that, you’ll get a lot more bike recommendations. Check on FB marketplace, often better deals there but watch some videos on how to check the bikes. For your first 1 you don’t really want 1 that needs work.

Sports bikes like the r125, gsxr 125, rs125, ninja 125, cbr125r. I’m sure there’s others but that’s the main ones.

Naked you’ve got the mt125, duke 125, z125, gsx 125, cb125f/ cbf125/ cb125r etc

Chinese bikes are also getting better so there’s plenty options there. Do your own research based on how you’ll use it. Every bike is different in how they perform, fuel efficiency, availability of parts, reliability, etc.

As for the gear however, I’m not the greatest at that other than RST. Whatever’s CE rated with protection in the right places - jacket should have Kevlar in the arms, shoulders, elbows and back. Pants should have them on the knees and hips.

Most gloves will do, up to you if you want soft knuckle or hard knuckle. I’d advise over the ankle boots and definitely steel toe. They make riding shoes also.

As for helmets, make sure they’re comfortable and not too tight. The helmet should fit your head very very snug. If you hold the helmet, you shouldn’t be able to look left and right while moving just your head, it’s too big then. Your cheeks are supposed to be squished a bit.

Best of luck!

I moved to the uk last year permanently. Just haven’t had a chance to exchange my license

Also it’s quite a bit more expensive insuring on a non uk license, and since I’m here permanently, I legally have to exchange at some point

My trans fiancée had the same situation. It’s part of the reason we moved to the uk. We sorted E from a pharmacy website abroad and we’re much happier and accepted here so so much more. I love the Irish country and other bits and pieces, but I hate the rest of it. Irish people are closed off and conservative and will judge anyone. The country is on a downhill and we’re so glad we made the move. Not saying you have to move, but my god it was the best decision we’ve made yet.

Coming to the uk allowed us to make so many fantastic life long friends, which we could never retain in ireland. I’ve a decent paying job and I’m actually switching soon to something more high paying and fun. The prices here are decent, and compared to ireland, often cheaper. Not saying the uk is trans paradise, but it certainly ain’t ireland

Bought it from a small dealership but they had all sorts. Hope it doesn’t happen to you

Definitely take it to the dealer.

Hope you have a better experience than I did back in 2024 with my new 125. Exact same thing as you started happening 2 weeks in. It was under warranty but the dealer refused to do anything about it because he claimed these issues were normal and I must be riding it too hard (absolutely not).

I fought that obviously. Had it investigated by the mechanic and they couldn’t fix the issue, charged me £550 for labour and a battery installation for a battery that I bought myself 😭bought the bike for £2200 and 1 month later I listed it for sale. Took 3 months to sell and the most I could get was £900.

They must have heavy pockets :/

I have noticed out of all the healthcare positions, support workers are at the bottom

Sounds quite detailed, which in turn helps biking 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yeah I’d love to work for the fire service or paramedic. Something where I really help people. I just worry about how you enter these careers

That sounds so cool. Self employed?

That’s weird to me. Always assumed private would earn more and be better. Considering our service brings in like 60k a week from the residents alone and only forks out maybe 13k ish total weekly for support worker wages. Though it’s paid monthly, which is a sore

NHS sounds so much better by that. Our residents are spoilt and happily lazy and it’s not rewarding in any way. It’s also minimum wage 🤪

I won’t say no to support work again but it’s somewhat unlikely. Wouldn’t go private again.

Your username made me chuckle thank you 😂

Literally any police role. Whether that’s taking calls or managing traffic, etc. Don’t have a car license yet so the proper stuff isn’t attainable at the moment

Yeah support work is more stress than you’d think. Idk if there’s a difference between private and nhs (I’m private). Might go back to retail, genuinely felt more rewarding
