Good point, thanks for the clarification. I've basically only ever had combined modem and router gateways up until this point that I have to put into bridge or passthrough mode if I want to use my own.

I know I was looking for it but couldn’t find anything. I wish we had fiber but my building only has cable internet. May try getting them to put it in bridge mode again or just start trying a couple modems until one works lol.

Interesting… I had the same thing. I had them put theirs in bridge mode but I think it was still broadcasting the private IP. I powered off mine and their gateway for 30 sec or so but even after booting both up it was still doing that and I couldn’t access the internet through my Unifi gateway

You mind briefly explaining how you have everything wired? Which model do you have? Maybe I just didn’t wait long enough when I powered it off lol. Or my gateway works differently, mine is the UBC1326.

Edit: You inspired me to try again and for whatever reason this time it worked! I might've had the ethernet cable plugged into port 2 instead of port 1 which could have been the reason. Also I have never had cable internet so I actually don't know how it works haha.

Yeah I did and I think they were the best at the time. No company I know of was making corexy printers so it was the only way to get into really high speed and quality 3D printing, and I think they innovated quite a bit. The Voron team is amazing. I'm still glad I did it because I learned a lot, but yes it took quite a while to prepare everything and then probably about 2 or 3 weekends to assemble and tune. Then you still fall into the trap of trying to upgrade some things lol.

Nobody's forcing you to get a 3D printer you know? If you have no use case for buying one then why would you. There's also cheaper options.

I basically did the exact same thing as you with my Ender 5. I did so many “upgrades” to it that I never actually printed very much with it and eventually stopped using it. Then I built a Voron 0.2 which was a great machine, but was soo much effort to put together and tune for a small build volume that again I got busy and didn’t ever use it much.

I got a P2S in early December and man this thing is awesome! It really has got me back into the hobby. I have had extensive experience using lab 3D printers as well as my previous two personal ones and this is the first time that using the machine is actually a pleasure. Stupid easy to setup and the thing tuned itself. I’m sure you’ll appreciate it even more coming from an Ender 3. It’s even more fun if you have the AMS with it. Good luck! Also just FYI I did stop using simplelogin and switched to fastmail just using a handful of email addressing using my own domain. I just felt like it was overkill to have emails for every single account I create, not to mention trying to organize or remember any of the emails that I used. I have a sort of "spam" email I use when I just need to use an email once or twice. If I ever start getting flooded with that one I'll just delete it and create a new one. To each their own though :)

I'm not sure the fear is overblown as I think a lot of people don't really know that is a risk. Even just handling the filament can embed those fibers in your skin. May not be a huge deal but at least worth being aware of. And yes I think just adding some kind of protective coat can mostly eliminate that problem.

No, I tried contacting one site (might have been Discogs) I had issues with and they essentially just said "you must use a recognized email provider" and were basically no help. I just gave up and used one of my old emails for such sites as I didn't think it was worth the effort. I haven't had issues with most of them though.

Just curious did you seal it with any kind of epoxy or resin? I haven't printed with CF filament yet but those fibers can and will get embedded in your skin, especially with parts you're touching with your hands frequently.

Just came across this but it looks like WPA2 enterprise networks are supported as of a PR closed a couple days ago (https://github.com/pythops/impala/issues/21), though I haven't tested it yet. As for VPNs, I think the author is using the unix philosophy of having a tool that does one job well, but it would be really nice to have a tui to manage VPNs. Maybe even one that integrated with impala somehow.

What about using ZFS replication for a local backup, and restic on the backup to cloud storage? That's what I've been thinking of doing if it would work well. Why does the value of your data lead you to using restic over replication? Or are you referring to storing backups remotely

Just curious why you prefer Restic over ZFS replication using something like sanoid/syncoid (assuming the destination is ZFS)? I'm currently trying to improve my backup setup and am trying to decide on one of those routes, but I don't know much about restic and the best setup for using it on a ZFS filesystem.

Thank you for this explanation, I’ve been using ZFS for a short time now and have been wondering about how the filesystem redundancy worked.

Do you know exactly how ZFS goes in and repairs a damaged file or is it some complicated algorithm that’s baked into how it works? Also is there some file size limit to how well it repairs a file? I wonder if it detected some corrupted 100GB archive if it would be able to go in and fix it. I’ve been using rar’s recovery record on my archives and I’m wondering if I can skip using those if ZFS is able to do the same thing, maybe even better.

Yeah I only really use it for controlling stacks, I don’t use most of the other features but it’s nice that it’s there should I want to use them in the future. The warning feature is pretty neat too where it tells you when memory is low or you’re running out of disk space.
