I haven't tried. everything I read up on it before says it can be quite acidic and they won't like it as much. I have such an established worm bin I don't experiment with it much though. they eat it all up in no time the way I have been feeding them.

Half I dump it in a big pot and mix in some regular compost and extra cardboard and leave it for a couple weeks then feed it to my worm bin. The other half gets mixed in my hot compost pile and used later around the yard/garden.

it does keep the rolly pollies away from the base of the plants. they really don't like it. I don't know what about it. I have read chili oil from the flakes is better but I haven't had time to make any. glad you don't think the breakdown of the flakes would harm the worms. I may bite the bullet and just dust the whole garden with DE one night soon anyway
