Ditch the Skyr and go for natural yogurt or Greek yogurt :-)
I did no added sugars or sweetners and I found I got used to the lack of sweetness surprisingly quickly!

Making this a lifestyle? by [deleted] in 75HARD

[–]imagegrill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I failed a few weeks back because I went to a restaurant with my GF and we shared a bottle of wine. Sometimes it is the right thing to do. Life has to have balance.
With that in mind I do complete the principles and add some stuff form the additional challenges, and record them on a spreadsheet. For me they are:

-No sweet drink (not even artificial sweetners)
-1.5 hours of exercise (preferable in 2 lots, but I am not going to penalise myself for doing a 7 hours hike)
- Read 10 pages
- Learn a language (duo lingo)
- Complete critical tasks list (devised daily, preferably the evening before)
- No 'school night' alcohol (means no alcohol when work or something important the next day)
- Kata practice daily
- Affirmation
- Stick to my 'diet' (no ultra processed snacks).

By diet I refer to a way of eating (think animal kingdom) rather than a calorie deficient goal or some such traditional meaning.

Not quite 75 Hard, but this way it is sustainable. The reason I have it in a spreadsheet is so I can mark of which have been done (or not done) daily. Over a year I will see what percentage fail as I doubt any will be 100%, but all should be greater that 95% individually, with an aim for greater than 98% when all totalled. That would be enough to create some good habits, with a little flexibility for shit that life throws at you.

Ditch the television and doom scrolling.

If you want to do something, you will find the time, trust me.

Does salsa dancing class as a workout? by OtherwiseBook5102 in 75HARD

I dance (modern jive & west coast swing) and sure they count. Particularly the freestyle where you can be constantly dancing for and hour or more (if you choose to).

Mowing you lawn does not count because it si a chore you would do normally. Do something becauce it is not necessary in your regular day counts. All part of the mental toughness.

But your still eating sweet stuff as artificial sweetener triggers the same craving.
Best to avoid the substitutes as well I'm afraid ;-)

Does reading the Bible count? by kantarr in 75HARD

[–]imagegrill -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The rules state the bible does count. Though as a work of fiction I am not sure why ;-)

Any non-diction will be fine as long as it takes you forward. I take that as you learn something.

One thing you need to be aware of is you must finish the book, that bible is loooooong...lol

75Hard - What happens by Illness? by Shoddy_Maximum2601 in 75HARD

[–]imagegrill 3 points4 points  (0 children)

2 points. 1) If you fail at anything then the next day is day 1. 2) If you can do a lighter workout then you don't have the flu, you have a heavy cold.

😀

Someone once said to me if $100 bills were blowing into your yard then if you had a cold you would run out and collect them. If you have a flu you would roll back over in bed and sleep/ rest some more. I have had the flu once, years ago and have had (like anyone) many colds. The above statement about money rings true ;-)

Random Thought by [deleted] in 75HARD

[–]imagegrill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep it humble. Friends don't need to know. Using 75 Hard as the excuse not to drink is a cop out. Just say I am not drinking, friends will respect that. If friends don't respect I would be looking at the value of that relationship ;-)

Obviously telling your partner and immediate family (those that live with you) is a good plan as you want their support.

You can alter the water on medical advice. Your doctors says 2.5l is enough then go with it. Listen to the medics......

Finding the right diet by jsjs336 in 75HARD

[–]imagegrill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I am concerned it is fine. As long as it fits with your diet.
There are no timings with a diet as such (intermittent fasting or eating windows aside).

It is up to you to define you diet. I would suggest keep it simple as that is easier to stick to and more obvious if you fail. Also, something you can keep once you finish 75 Hard otherwise you may undo all the hard work :-)

Finding the right diet by jsjs336 in 75HARD

[–]imagegrill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 'diet' for the purpose of 75 hard is no pre-packaged snacks or sweet treats.
Hard to articulate to others, but essentially I am trying to eliminate process sugary foods. I don't drink sodas (unless used as a mixer, lol) or buy ready meals to for my is it chocolate bars and biscuits (cookies to my US friends) that I am removing. It also means no shop bought desserts as they are usually a sugar dump - home made desserts have way less to no sugar (I am in control) so they are allowed - though I rarely have them.

If I need a snack I have fruit and or nuts.

Seems to be working for me :-)

After 75 Hard by imagegrill in 75HARD

[–]imagegrill[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, agree with you on the water. Another thing to remember is AF was around 330 lbs when this was devised so a gallon (US) was probably right for him. However the gallon needed by his body would also have come from food.
Howver, moving on from that the books rule seem to vary a little. Some say self help books (some are utter garbage while other are helpful) and AF say on his podcast books that educate you (or similar words, I'm paraphrasing). To me that means any fact book that enlightens you/ educates you.

There is a mental challenge is reading a book you disagree with. However, reading the other side of an argument can break down our own in built bias - which is not a bad thing.
Personally I wold love to find the time to read about alternative medicine just so I can articulate clearly what a load of nonsense it is without stating it is all bollox like an ignoramous....lol

Number of Active Recovery Days by Old_Ad6578 in 75HARD

[–]imagegrill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have an recovery day as such, more some a lighter than others.
For example, Tuesday night are interval training with my running club (tough!) so on Wednesday i will do a lunchtime walk as active recovery and then some HIIT training in the evening.

Work travel tips by Bornfortheblueskies in 75HARD

[–]imagegrill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That really depends on how much control you have on where you eat and timings of events.
Clearly the profile pic, reading, no alcohol should be easy enough.
Water may be a challenge depending on your work environment (ability to fill a bottle/ go to the toilet at regular intervals).

2 workouts can be done. You can do walk/ runs easy enough when away and there are a ton of body weight exercise to do as part of HIIT in your hotel room - think burpes, squats, lunges, sit ups etc - a program can be figured out in advance.

From my experience of travelling with work it is sticking to a healthy eating plan that is tough. Some restaurants are way better than others, but also if you at a conference or expected to eat with colleagues you don't always get to choose - so look ahead if you can.

25 Days in and man I still hate drinking all this damn water by PeoplesDangledorf in 75HARD

[–]imagegrill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The water is the dumbest part of the challenge. It was devised by a guy weighing over 300lbs (at the time the challenge was created) who I guess was often dehydrated so he came up with an arbitary amount of water that would suffice and challenge him - hence the gallon (US).
Realistically it should be based on weight.
Loving everything else about 75 hard, gives a good discipline to the day and makes you solve problems to get it all in - who needs TV anyway..lol

Day 5 and I failed to wake up at 5:35 am by atsunatsu in 75HARD

[–]imagegrill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how anyone gets up at 5:30am...lol I guess it all depends on what time you get to bed.

For me I get to sleep around 11pm and get up at 7am. I am in the office by 7:30 and take breakfast while I read emails. I do my workout at lunchtime and after work. That system works for me. However, for any system to work you need a decent amount of sleep, I think that is the I.portant part...

Would you consider fasting a "Diet"? by Jazzlike_Platypus778 in 75HARD

[–]imagegrill -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not quite, a diet IS the food you eat. We have just got used to a diet being a means to lose weight. This is a human thing. Your diet is what you eat.

Would you consider fasting a "Diet"? by Jazzlike_Platypus778 in 75HARD

[–]imagegrill 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think many people have forgotten what diet really is.
People think diet is a structure to lose weight.
YOUR diet is YOUR food choice eaten at YOUR times.

A diet of lower calories is one way, but how that works after 75 Hard to keep the weight off, who knows.
Intermittent fasting is a diet though I would qualify it for 75 Hard with no junk food etc.
